President Trump will lose Presidential credibility when he wimps out of Iran, Presidents must stay the course or they are seen as weak, aka Jimmy Carter.  JFK and Reagan as seen as great Presidents, they were tough, Kennedy over Cuba and Vietnam, Reagan surviving assassination attempt, being tough with the USSR, invading Grenada and bombing Libya, and supporting the Contra Freedom Fighters in Nicaragua.  If Trump wimps out in Iran then he fails Presidential greatness.

It's best to review a speech after a good night's sleep.  The speech was angry, POTUS defended is domestic agenda, he seemed to get more angry as he went on, his poll numbers have gone down, every 2nd term President has this problem, it should be noted Reagan's polls went down after Iran - Contra, his polls only went up after he admitted the policy mistake from the Oval Office.  Let's note Reagan left OFFICE with a 63% approval rating and his VP becoming President.  One wonders if Trump can do the same.

VP Richard Cheney was a giant of US politics, Deputy Chief and later Chief of Staff to President Ford after the Watergate scandal had bought down Richard Nixon, a Congressman who was a Reagan foot solider in the Congress, defended Reagan during the Iran - Contra scandal, Defence Secretary to Bush 41, was a key character in Gulf War 1, and later VP to Bush 43, and bought political weight to the Republican ticket, Cheney and was firm supporter of the Iraq War.  The close relationship between the VP and POTUS took a hit due to peace disaster that was Iraq, also Bush 43 would not pardon Scooter Libby for breaking the law, in fact Trump in one of the first things he did was the Oval was to pardon Libby.  This did not help with the frosty non relationship between Cheney and Trump.  The former VP voted for VP Harris in 2024.

Thus happly end to Iran - Contra, the couple were widowers, thus gives us all hope of finding love later on in life.  As President Reagan stated Ollie North is an American hero, he kept the Contra Freedom fighters going in Nicaragua by selling arms to Iran by and diverting profits to the freedom fighters.  When the news broke, Ms Hall destroyed documents in the shredder to cover the operation.  The right thing to do at the time, whatever the Democrats said at the time.   The operation was a costly mistake for President Reagan, it took time to recover from, in the end Bush 41 won in 1988, the American people forgave the Gipper, thus 1st Vice President to succeed his boss in over a hundred years, with the exception of assassination or resignation.

If Trump appeases Putin then his 2nd term will have been a MAJOR FAILURE, the same can be said of the Iran talks on Saturday.  2nd Term Presidents spend their time on Foreign Policy, they have more freedom to deal, after IRAN - CONTRA, Reagan bought the Cold War to an end and signed the INF Treaty, that the Russians cheated on.   Trump should look at Reagan for an example of a 2nd term rebound.

Thus petty politics at play, Biden did the same to him and Trump won in 2024 and not VP Harris, so this is payback time, neither men understood at the time, that the club of former Presidents is very limited, so Presidents used to take care of their predecessors, as they would become former Presidents in time.   The advice of former Presidents is valuable, they are the men who have held the office.  Reagan valued the political advice and foreign viewpoint from Richard Nixon.  At the height of Iran - Contra Nixon wrote a note to Reagan, not to talk about the issue.  Reagan placed the note in his diary.  This is a lesson that neither Trump or Biden have learned.

The Donald will not be happy, he likes big crowds, the Inaugural will follow the format of Reagan's Inaugural in 1985.  Lets hope Trump47 is half as good as Reagan, the Gipper was a great President,  specially in the 2nd term, ending the Cold War in 1986, there was Iran - Contra, nobody went to jail or was impeached, as Lady Thatcher said in 2004, won the Cold  war without firing a shot, this lead to Russia leaving Afghanistan and lead to the downfall of the USSR. This is a big win for Trump, the various Federal Cases will be affected, we wait to see what the Courts and Prosecutors so with the case, the general opinion is that the Court cases will start after the election, of course Trump as President could pull them if elected.   This Judgement by the Supreme Court does ask a few Questions of Presidential history, lets look at the examples, was JFK and the CIA'S attempt to kill Castro in the early 1960s was that official or Kennedy's need for revenge after the Bay of Pigs.  Then we move to 1968, was Nixon's sabotage of the Paris Peace Talks, semi official as he become President or private action that should have seen him Court.   Let's forget that LBJ bugged Nixon with the help of the FBI,  was the legal, its an open question, then we go to Nixon again in 1972 with Watergate, it can be presume that Nixon after the LBJ files on the Paris Peace Talks.  Thus would Nixon have had to resign in 1974.  The next case in Iran - Contra of the late1980s, it was Reagan's believe that the Contra freedom fighters had to be supported, after the Congress cut off official aid, he wanted the Contra fighters funded, no matter what it took, thus a diversion of funds to the Contra's.   As with JFK, there is doubt if Reagan knew this was happening, even if he did, it would not matter as it was official policy by Reagan to fight communism. In 1998 we have Bill Clinton, this was a private affair and thus the President would not have been immune from the Courts.   It seems the Court would have agreed with Nixon.   Interesting Court days ahead!!

Call this blog cynical, we shall see if the terrorists keep to the pause, after they have gotten their people back, they know that each hostage will be worth more, and thus will want more.  Talking to terrorist groups or States never ends well, just ask Jimmy Carter, after American hostages were kept for 444 days, and only released after Ronald Reagan become President.  President Reagan had Iran - Contra, he got through it, but his polls were hit for a while.  It should be Western policy NEVER to talk to terrorists, they will ask for something you cannot give.  It's an open invitation  to take Western hostages and exchange them for something, with Reagan it was arms, the funds for them went to help the Contra freedom fighters, thus Iran - Contra.  Let's see how long the truce lasts and who starts firing first.

These are the real serious charges the former President Trump could face, these carry prison time, US national security is a serious matter and has to be protected, in the norm Presidents have Presidential Libraries to show were they come from and what they achieved while President and to allow reporters and historians to see documents that that shows the process of the White House under different Presidents.   The Library is also  a way to bury the disaster of the period of would be disasters, Nixon fought for years to keep his taping system from the ears of the American people. This blog read  an article that described how a reporters tried to get information from the Reagan Library about Iran - Contra an was refused on national security grounds, that was decades after the events.  It seems that Trump was boosting about his papers, the plans to attack Iran, that breaks national security law, and thus Trump should be face Trail, the Donald can run for the Oval Office from prison.

The Kremlin wants hostages, enough for the US to start talks that allows the Russians to win in the Ukraine, so far they hold 2, if the Ukraine can force the Russians back to the Crimea, the Kremlin will look for a way out, the best way out is to take Americans reporters as hostages, that gets on the nightly news back home, and places pressure on the Biden Oval to do something, the White House staff should keep the issue away from the Oval, Carter had his Iran hostages, and even the great Reagan had the hostages in Lebanon in the 1980s.  Thus the Iran Contra scandal.  The President cannot become distracted by the issue, the State Department should deal with the issue, the Department should warn Americans in Russia to get out, also the West should consider telling its reporters to get out, just in case the Kremlin wants to place pressure on Europe.  This is a nasty business, and the Russians actions are a stain on its character, but for Putin it might be a way out, he wants a major summit with Biden and the result  from the Kremlin point of view would be the US telling KYIV to talk to the Russians and make concessions and the Russia will release its hostages.   This must not happen, the security of the West is at stake.

It can be postulated that the US Attorney General Merrick Garland has played this in a fair manner, in many respects he had no choice, he appointed a Special Counsel for the former President  Donald Trump, also the Republicans in the House and the Senate would have hit the roof if he had tried to keep the issue within the DOJ.  The question that has to be asked, will POTUS now run for a 2nd term, in the view of the DOJ a sitting President can not be charged with any crime, thus what if it becomes serious and the faults lie with Biden, will the US House impeach him ?, YES, is the simple answer if they think they have a case, the Democrats in the House and the Senate should keep their powder dry, they might not want to jump on the Biden boat if it turns out to be the Titanic.  Interesting times ahead, if nothing else to see the CNN anchors getting their knickers in to twist is stating that the Biden and Trump case are not like, good luck with that, people hear the term Special Counsel and assume the worst.

One does hope that POTUS does not come to regret these words, what the Lord giveth, a good Hill victory the Lord taketh away with Afghanistan and China might invade Taiwan, thus forcing the US and the West to support the Democratic Island.  This blog has argued that you can be liberal or conservative when it comes to your domestic agenda, but you have to be STRONG when you are President, one only looks at what happened to Jimmy Carter, the Russians going in to Afghanistan and the Tehran hostage crisis, American President need to be feared by the World, being like does not matter, that was the problem with President Obama, when he drew a red line if Syria used chemical weapons and they did and Obama did nothing.  That what happens when you get the NOBEL PRIZE for DOING NOTHING.  The personal ego takes over the Presidential ego.  At the end of his two terms, President Obama had a 58% approval rating with Gallup, while Reagan had 63% and Clinton had 66%, with the CBS poll both had 68% even after their policy and personal scandals.   A President needs to be feared more than loved, and respected, China is seeing how far it can push Biden and Taiwan.

This is a big win for the Biden Oval, but its not the great win that the Left wing Democrats wanted, they wanted to spend 6 trillion on EVERY Democratic wish, the Democrats could not get two of their own to support that, thus this is a limited bill.  This blog was a bit iffy about CLIMATE CHANGE, but the hot weather of the past few years has convinced this blog that the West and the World needs to DO SOMETHING to prevent the weather getting ANY HOTTER, the new Act will get people to go for electric cars and other policy favourites of the Democrats.  Of course the question is NOW, who will tell the Chief not to run for a 2nd term, a 2nd terms for modern Presidents has been rough, that goes for Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, Bush 43, and Obama, it could be advised that Biden gets out while he is winner, and not defeated for a 2nd term.  Who will be the man/women to tell Biden its over after a one term.

Always read the documents when it comes to a case of impeachment.  The 24/7 news networks always hype what they want the viewers to know, that goes from CNN to Fox News. Always make up your own mind, an impeachment process should take a year and have endless Committee meetings, the Democrats want it over in 8 weeks, whenever someone tries to push for this something this fast, you always have to ask why?  Are they afraid that the charge will not hold up, also the Democrats do not want the process to overtake the Democratic race for the nomination.  Even with Iran Contra, the Gipper was lucky, it came at the end of November, after the 1986 Mid Terms, and the hearings did not last that long, the special prosecutor at the end did not achieve much and Bush 41 pardoned the main actors in the fair, the Gipper could transfer the problem to his successor, and not have deal with any pardon issues, kept his hands clean, a great politician. 

*After reading the whistleblower complaint I am not impressed, a lot of 2nd hand knowledge, and lot open press reports, if this is ALL the Democrats have got, they are in trouble.  The Congressional hearings better have something more, or the Democrats are going to look like fools and this blog does not even like POTUS.

Let's be CLEAR, Ronald Reagan was one  of the greatest Presidents in US history, and as Lady Thatcher said won the cold war without firing a shot.  As the article notes Reagan used US Armed Forces when Iran attacked US interests, the President understood that bullies have to be countered, and let's be honest he tried to talk to Iran, thus Iran - Contra, when that did not work and Iran was shown to be a bad actor in, Reagan responded attacks from Iran  with force, let's recall Reagan's VP won 1988 US Presidential Election, no VP had successful won the Oval after a two term President in 152 years and nonce since.  Donald Trump will never be a REAGAN, he will be lucky to win  a 2nd term, he is the modern Neville Chamberlain and the Middle East is the modern Munich.  If you appease you LOSE in all kind of ways.

If one follows the uber liberal media they have gone off the idea that the Mueller Report will confirm a firm collusion between President Trump and the Russians in 2016.   Thus there stressing of the Congressional investigations and the New York State investigation.   Let's speculate, that is fun, and everyone else does it.  What if the Mueller investigation finds that there was collusion between POTUS and the Russians, by the way collusion is not a crime, yes that is true.   The effect would be political, even the Republicans would have to bail ship and impeach the President.  On the other hand if no collusion the Democrats and the urban liberal media is going to look foolish, VERY.   CNN would have to say SORRY for running with the story for two years, this blog will not hold its breath.   Let's look at past scandals, in Watergate, Richard Nixon was bought down by the Special Prosecutor who could link Nixon to the Watergate break - in cover up, in the case of Bill Clinton the Prosecutor could also prove that Clinton lied under oath, this was later confirmed by the House who impeached the President, he was later found not guilty by the US Senate.   Thus Nixon resigned, Clinton was impeached, while the best handling of a scandal was the case of Ronald Reagan and Iran Contra, to this day no one knows if the Gipper knew about the secret funding of the Contra Freedom Fighters, at the end of the day Reagan was slapped on the hands for bad management skills, Nixon and Clinton would have taken that!! No one went to jail, convictions were overturned and Bush 41, Reagan's VP pardoned those under threat of Court cases in 1992.   It should be noted that that Clinton left Office with a Gallup Approval rating of 66%, while Reagan had 63%.   One sure that the Gipper would have not minded, his VP was his successor, seen as Reagan's Third Term.   This had not happened in over a hundred years and has not happened since.
