Who Knew What When & When did they Forget

Guardian: The Guardian asks an important question, “ Were the actions of British security and intelligence agencies……sanctioned by ministers? ” when it came to the relationship with Gaddafi’s Libya. As stated folks its not in the interest of the Government or the Opposition to ask to much deep questions about past actions by MI6 and the last Labour Government. This story after a few days of press uproar will slide back in to the shadows, that how our system works folks, it has to, that’s the nature of Government and Intelligence.

MI6/CIA and Rendition

Telegraph: Reports on a joint MI6/CIA rendition operation that sent a present Libyan rebel back to Libya to be tortured by the Gaddafi Regime. All these close contacts between the UK Government and the Gaddafi Regime was a massive mistake, the biggest PR problem for the then PM Tony Blair is his visit to Libya in 2007. Its was one thing to get Gaddafi off the road to becoming a nuclear power, its quite another securing the Regime. Lets recall terrorists attacks of 2001 in the US and 2005 in the UK effected the normal judgements but sometimes you need to breath and think, is this good in the long term, also is this good politics, both answers when it comes to Libya is NO.

UK Rendition Policy and Colonel Gaddafi

BBC News: Report that Coalition PM David Cameron has called for an Independent Inquiry in to the allegation that the UK sent suspect terrorists to Libya under the policy of rendition. As posted by this blog the liberal New York Times had this story a few days ago, this blog did do a link to the story. It has taken the UK Media a few days catch up. On the substance of this story, another negative for the Labour Party to deal with, thus we have Iraq and dodgy Libyan dealings under Tony Blair, then financial mess under Gordon Brown and the break down of his relationship with his own Chancellor. As to if this story will go anywhere, have my doubts, after a few days of press outrage one can see it sinking, it does not suit Labour to press issue, while for the Government it’s a good political tool to be critical of Labour it does concern MI6, the Coalition would be wise to leave the spooks alone, lets recall that the CIA leaked on Bush 43 when they had been upset.
