POTUS on Paris Attack - Latest 4 - The New War on Terror

The White House: Reports on remarks by President Obama on the terror attack in Paris today, " I've reached out to President Hollande of France and hope to have the opportunity to talk to him today.  But I thought it was appropriate for me to express my deepest sympathies to the people of Paris and the people of France for the terrible terrorist attack that took place earlier today.

I think that all of us recognize that France is one of our oldest allies, our strongest allies.  They have been with us at every moment when we've -- from 9/11 on, in dealing with some of the terrorist organizations around the world that threaten us.  For us to see the kind of cowardly evil attacks that took place today I think reinforces once again why it's so important for us to stand in solidarity with them, just as they stand in solidarity with us.

The fact that this was an attack on journalists, attack on our free press, also underscores the degree to which these terrorists fear freedom -- of speech and freedom of the press.  But the one thing that I'm very confident about is that the values that we share with the French people, a belief -- a universal belief in the freedom of expression, is something that can't be silenced because of the senseless violence of the few.

And so our counterterrorism cooperation with France is excellent.  We will provide them with every bit of assistance that we can going forward.  I think it's going to be important for us to make sure that we recognize these kinds of attacks can happen anywhere in the world.  And one of the things I'll be discussing with Secretary Kerry today is to make sure that we remain vigilant not just with respect to Americans living in Paris, but Americans living in Europe and in the Middle East and other parts of the world, and making sure that we stay vigilant in trying to protect them -- and to hunt down and bring the perpetrators of this specific act to justice, and to roll up the networks that help to advance these kinds of plots.

In the end, though, the most important thing I want to say is that our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who’ve been lost in France, and with the people of Paris and the people of France.  What that beautiful city represents -- the culture and the civilization that is so central to our imaginations -- that's going to endure.  And those who carry out senseless attacks against innocent civilians, ultimately they’ll be forgotten.  And we will stand with the people of France through this very, very difficult time.

Lets Get Real:

It is fair to say that the remarks by President Obama are quite moving and in the spirit of the close alliance between the US and France.  In sense WE are all of Paris today, if you think free speech is important then you want the West to seek and remove the threat to Western free speech.   We stand with Paris today.

Lets Get Real:

This blog noted that the Republicans should not give any gifts to the Democrats, this move to block Obama's immigration moves is just such a gift, any threat to the funding of Homeland Security can be argued is a gift to the terrorists.  The Republicans are not on to a winner with their views on immigration, this would have been a perfect way to fund the changes and for the GOP to argue that national security is more important that immigration issues.   Never have an issue that is a negative and in which you do not not hold an Ace at the back of yours hands.   The Oval Office will argue that any threat to homeland security is a gift to the enemy, and they are right.   Thus the Oval Office wins by default.

A rally is being held by France's national journalist union.  Many protesters have adopted the slogan #JeSuisCharlie, holding up banners and placards with the words.  There are also protests in other parts of France, such as Rennes: "

Lets Get Real:

Ever since 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq there has been an increase in Western security, the question that has to be asked, what if the terrorists got their hands on WMD, does any one think they would not use them, the World, and that includes the Russians need to increase the pressure on terrorists from the Middle East.  The security services of the West have been successful in blocking terror plans of the Middle East terrorists, but they can not be a 100% successful, thus today.    The liberal elite in the West has to get its head around the fact that the West will only be secure when Middle East terror groups like, Al Qaeda, IS are finished, the West has to be ruthless, it has to win.    The price for failure was paid today in Paris.

Guardian - Live Blog: Reports in its 5.12pm post that the five journalists killed today in Paris were named as " They are the magazine’s editor and cartoonist, Stéphane Charbonnier, known as Charb; Bernard Maris, an economist and writer on the board of Charlie Hebdo; and three more cartoonists: Jean Cabu, Georges Wolinski and Bernard Verlhac, known as Tignous. "

Lets Get Real:

The above is one of the reasons that either Al Qaeda or IS have to be destroyed, they use religion as a reason for mass murder, 9/11, 7/7 and many others.   The evil that has its roots in the Middle East has to be removed and thrown in the bin like the rubbish it is, Islam like the other great religions can produce evil supporters, its not the fault of the religion, its the evil in the minds of men.   The West has been at fault, it so afraid of being called racist that it has allowed Islam to be miss used as a way to attack the West.   The evil terrorists should be caught and thrown in to the darkest cell and the key thrown away, I guess we would  have to feed them, that is the difference, acts like 9/11 and 7/7 make those of a tolerant view point go to support those that will use extreme methods to fight back, torture works, it was used by the CIA against terrorist and it helped prevent other attacks.   Liberal thought has to be defend, what ever the cost to the soul.

ALL LIBERAL THINKERS ARE, I am Charlie, the written word can never be taken down as long as we fight evil with words and humour.  Our thoughts are with the families of those killed today in Paris.   Terrorism only wins when Western Liberal thought is not brave to poke fun at anything, then we might as well live under FEAR, this will never happen in the US, UK and France.
