It is mistake for Biden to get into the trenches to fight the LAW AND ORDER topic, there is always a chance that more violence will break out in US cities and Biden will be asked about it, and if he gives the wrong answer he could LOSE his liberal base or start to worry people who live in the suburbs.  A Biden victory is not a give walk over, Biden is no OBAMA or REAGAN.  If Trump can gain a few points in the rust belt State then we might have a real race on our hands.  The Debates will be interesting, will Biden say NO to them, this has been the view of the House Speaker, the Democrats are afraid that Biden will show his age or do something that costs the Democrats the White House.

The US Presidential Election is getting nasty, and the Democrats have to be careful that they do not LOSE the law and order fight, as has been noted, Nixon used that in 1968 to beat the sitting Vice - President in their match up.   President Trump has no difficulty in sending in the Army in to Democratic cities if they look like they are out of control, also suburbs do not like to feel the threat of riots on their doorstep.  It has been noted that Biden has not done a lot of actually meeting the people, he has stayed in his bunker, he has to get out more, the US voter likes a candidate who are not afraid to meet the voters, and Trump loves big rallies.  One the whole Biden should win, but he can not afford to lose more points  to Trump.

The EU is used to last minute agreements, thus it hopes to wear down the UK and its Government.  In the case of BREXIT this will not work, as any agreement needs to get through the House of Commons and then passed by the rest of Europe.  This blog has argued that the UK should just walk away, the game playing of the EU is starting to BORE, even the newspapers rarely run a story on the the Brexit talks, its like a game, and the UK and the EU are playing two different games, the UK Government has the support of the UK public when it comes to Brexit, the EU has Brussels.   Times to end this game and walk away.

This is the REMAIN BBC hoping that the PM Boris will cave in to EU demands, this is not likely, the PM has had many U turns since Covid - 19, the one policy he can not change is BREXIT.  The Brexit story has been off the front pages of the papers for ages, with COVID - 19 the papers have had to deal with a real STORY, a tragedy in the amount of people lost.  The UK voters have been clear twice that they want out of the EU, the HARD REMAINERS want any connection with the EU, thus they seem to forget that the Government can over rule the House of Lords, we the UK voter will have BREXIT, a real Brexit, not a Brexit in name only.

The above is the type of news that this blog wants to HEAR, that the UK will decide its own destiny, the UK can cope with a NO DEAL BREXIT and a 2nd wave of Covid - 19, the UK Government is already planning for it, just in case, that it goes down that road.   One hopes that the EU have their ears open, this means Paris and Berlin.   The EU blew its chance with PM's Cameron and May, one hopes that they do not read the Guardian and think that is UK policy.  On December 31st the UK will be totally FREE, about time since 2016.  Any problems will be dealt with, the British are good in a crisis either War or Royal EVENTS. The EU is slowly missing the UK, the UK is on the train, will the EU join us or be left at the platform.

As the chairman of Wetherspoons supported Brexit through out the process we should support our local pubs.   It has been nice to get out and seeing real people getting along with their real lives, watching reality shows on TV for a while has been fun, but seeing people smile, having conversations and laughing is a must part of being alive, stuck at home for nearly 5 months has almost being annoying at watching CNN or the BBC when it comes to Brexit.    It is nice to shoot the breeze with other people, just talking about nothing, is part of being alive.   Let's hope we do not need a 2nd lockdown, that would be a disaster for the UK ECONOMY.

On the whole this blog does sully its mind with watching the conventions, it was bad enough to catch some of the arse kissing by CNN of the Biden Convention and this blog is supporting Biden out of no choice!

Thus the GOP is the NOW the party of of Trump and his family.  The President is in trouble, he is down in the national polls and he is down in the rust belt States.   The President needs to find something or really go to town with Biden during the campaign debates.   The elite liberal media, CNN, NYT are celebrating Biden as superman, only because he manged to get through a speech, and what happens when he is off the teleprompter, can he duke it out with Trump in the debates, that will be interesting.

So the EU is playing hardball, well the UK should just walk way and blame the EU and the French for the problem.  The Brussels delegation is under the thump of the French who are afraid of losing their long term fishing concessions in UK waters and also the Germans.  The UK should remind the EU that the UK Government has two mandates, one from 2016 and the recent 2019 general election, the UK has been VERY CLEAR in what they want, OUT of the EU and we should not make any more concessions and we should refuse to give them any money that was agreed too in the withdrawal agreement.   That money can be spent on the NHS and life care for the elderly, better use than for the retirement of EU officials.  PM Boris has to show that he has steel and that he is not just ALL SHOW, the Conservative supporters and voters want that, the mind find his inner Churchill or Lady Thatcher.

No 10 will not be quite worried yet, the next election is in 2024 and the PM has a 78 majority in the House of Commons.  The PM has to get BREXIT done and short out the education mess when he comes back from his hols.  The poor PM has had a rough year, he deserved a holiday to recharge the batteries.   The EU is playing the UK like fools, the UK should cut bait with the EU and say we will have a NO DEAL BREXIT, then we shall see the EU come back running to us.  The above post does have an interesting point, Sir Keir Starmer is a tougher opposition leader, he will not be a pushover like Jeremy Corbyn, just a little bit more move to the right and Sir Keir could become a REAL THREAT in 2024.

The EU is playing us ALONG, they hope we will get tired and just agree to an agreement that suits the EU.   PM Boris has to be firm, its our way or the high road,and we do not care much either way by NOW.  The EU has never had a country leaves its structure, so it has 27 heads of Government wanting different things, the French and the Germans want access to UK fish in UK waters, as if the UK has not left the EU.   The UK has to be firm, no faint of heart as the 5th Doctor used to say ( Doctor Who, 5th Doctor ) or Lady Thatcher said, you may U - turn the Lady is not for turning.  The UK decided in 2016 and confirmed in 2019 that the UK wants to cut ties with the EU.

An Irish source this blog the Irish pubs are opening and selling pizza and then selling drink, as long as the customers do not stay more than 90 minutes its legal.   The Irish are being very naughty but upholding a Celtic tradition, the pub is a man's home from home.   The lockdown lasted to long, people just get fed up, humans are community mamals, we tent to like to see other people, and have a drink and shoot the breeze, the Governments either have to allow that or people vote against them in elections, what a choice for brave politicains. So the Irish people should follow the rules, if for nothing else if they do not the virus will come back strong in the UK.

Thus as the article states, the talks with start today with dinner and will last in till Friday, one hopes that a deal can be made, a good deal for the UK that is, the blog does not care if it is bad deal for the EU.  It is their fault for not been pragmatic with PM Cameron that lead to the UK's decision to leave the EU in 2016 and confirmed in the 2019 general election.  These endless talks can not go on forever, its the EU mindset, keep talking in till the other sides gives up, PM Boris has to remain FIRM, a deal must allow the UK to decide its law, not the ECJ, UK Governments will decide how to fund different sectors of the economy, and most important of all, UK Fish in UK waters are UK fish not part of France or Germany.

The LEFT WING CNN must have fainted when they saw this poll and asked for the money back, all CNN does every day is run negative stories about Trump, so do the major elite papers, it should be noted that other polls have Biden with a big lead over Trump.  The polls must be taking with caution.  Is the CNN poll just out there, or does it show the real STATE OF THE RACE.   Let's see the polls over the next few weeks. It could be that CNN has lost the trust of the people,in other words people just tune them out, it happens when a Paper or News networks go off the reservation with the public being the Judges.  At least a Biden vs. Trump will not be boring!

The present Labour Leader, Sir Keir Starmer has a choice to make, does he want to be the new Ed Miliband or the new Tony Blair, if he wants to be the new Ed Miliband, he just has to carry on as he is, he will spend the next five years on his project and then lose at the 2024 General Election.  If he wants to be new Tony Blair and win three elections starting in 2024 he has to throw Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters out of the Party.   This will cause a battle royal, but it will be worth it for Labour, it will return its soul and be a winning party of Government.   The CHOICE is STARK, and the answer is simple.

This proposed DEAL better be a good deal, the European Research Group will look at any deal in detail, the EU can not have the ECJ over lording the deal, the fish in UK waters should remain British and any deals with EU Countries must be FAIR to UK fishermen.   The French must stop their fishermen from blocking UK ports if they do not like the deal.   Also the UK Government should decided how munch money it spends on industrial renewal after COVID - 19.   The Sun and the leave papers will also be looking at the deal, they have been firm BREXIT supporters, they will not support a sellout.  Interesting month ahead.

As reported on one of the broadsheets over the weekend, the EU expects that the August recess will be shadow boxing from the UK, as its leaders are on holiday.   One hopes that the EU is WRONG, the 50 strong team should be charging at the guns of EU diplomats, making the case that the UK people voted for the UK to be sovereign and this means not linked to the ECJ or any other EU body.   The UK wants a good trade deal, not to become a colony of the EU.   It will be interesting to see at the end of the week, what both sides say, one hopes that a deal in principal can be reached, then signed off by the UK Government.

It is CLEAR that the SUN wants a NO DEAL BREXIT, the Conservative Government if it only had that to deal will could or might even follow, but the PM has to deal with the tragic results of COVID - 19 and the economic consequences of the virus, the Government is expected to have to spend in the area of three hundred and fifty billion to keep the economy moving and to fund the NHS.   Thus there will be need for tax hikes ( never a good move by a conservative Government, but it might have no choice, it has to keep the economic markets happy and give the impression that a Conservative Government is economic stable.   Thus the theory that the UK needs a DEAL with the EU, if it is needed for a short time, that would be good, and the UK public understand the pressure that the Government is under.  It must be stated that both in 2016 and 2019 the public have been very CLEAR, they want out of the EU.

This blog will support a DEAL if we keep our fish in our waters, that the ECJ does not have any power over the UK and immigration can be controlled.   That UK Government not the EU can decide on the sectors of the economy that get support from the State.  On the whole the UK voter has trust in Boris, the question is can we trust the civil service, they are the Opposition from within, in other words HARD REMAINERS.   The COVID - 19 pandemic has damaged the UK economy, a good trade deal with the EU would be good and in the interest of the UK.   IF the French are being silly buggers over OUR FISH, we should walk away, the French THINK they have a right to fish in UK waters, it is about time the UK showed them a RED CARD, our fish and our waters.

The UK should BLOCK ALL flights from Europe, no matter what the EU countries say, thus far the UK has avoided a 2nd wave, but it will come sooner or later, and it can be postulated that it will come from abroad, of someone not following the rules.   The UK is spending billions on the NHS and the economy in attempt to keep them  moving and above water, but the UK Treasury is not made of money, it can prints the stuff but sooner or later you have to pay your debts.  Also inflation can come back!  There are tough times ahead as the Chancellor stated in an interview, the UK might be able to avoid a 2nd wave that would damage the NHS and the economy.

Thus POTUS is up to his OLD TRICKS, after going after Barack Obama with his birther theory, he is NOW going after Senator Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for Vice - President.   The 2020 will be a battle in the trenches, all sides will play dirty, but to use  a racist theory against the Senator is foolish, as all she has to say is look at my record, a tough Attorney General in California, the issue would have come up by now if it was reality.  If this is the best that the Trump/Harris campaign can do, the Biden victory will be BIG in November.

This blog is nominally supporting Biden/Harris, but let's be clear, that is because Biden is the lesser evil here, any country that can have Trump vs.  Biden is in deep trouble.  It does remind one of the last days of the Roman Republic, who will be the new Augustus, will it be Kamala Harris, one shall see.  The Senator has the charisma, but does she have the chops for a Presidential campaign, we shall see, her run for the Oval Office fell flat, and of course it depends what Trump DOES, he will do something, let's hope it's not WAR with IRAN.   The US really needs a JFK or Reagan, it has not been lucky at present, it has Trump vs. Biden.

Thus the next US VP will be Senator Kamala Harris, this is a good move by Biden, she has a record as tough prosecutor and not afraid to show elbows when it comes to debates, she went after Biden in one debate.   Let's hope Biden has gotten blood oath from her that she will be loyal, while he is the Oval he does not want to worry that his VP has measured the drapes for the Oval Office when she moves in.  Thus the Presidential fight starts today!!

UK's Economic SLUMP after COVID - 19 - Update 1 - Economy/Health

It can be argued that the UK economy will have U shaped recession, shallow in the middle but a return to pre 2020 standards by the end 2021.   There will be deep job loses in the hospitality sector, from Bars, to pubs to restaurants .   The neat idea of the Chancellor to give a voucher to punters has been a great idea, it has gotten people back out for a drink and to eat.   It can be argued that the voucher scheme should be extended from its present Monday to Wednesday to the full week and extended to cover September also.   The Brexit effects should be limited, with the COVID - 19 taking the blame for job loses.   The UK should have a CLEAR BREXIT from the EU, the EU will come running for us after we have gone.

This is a non news event, Biden will be selected as the Democratic Nominee and his VP will be supported by the Convention.  Except speeches to attack Trump and the Republicans.  The liberal mainstream media and CNN ( It is about time CNN gave up being a news network! ) It just kisses the backside of the Democrats, will give the convention a fawning reporting and support whatever the Democrats say on the night.  It will be interesting to hear Barack and Michelle Obama and one hopes that Biden is NO BORING and manages not to place his foot in his mouth, he is the next President, God help US ALL.  It will be interesting to hear what the Dems say about FOREIGN POLICY, are they really going to take on Putin and Russia, of course expect them to want another DEAL with Iran.   One does wonder will Russia try to thwart the event with another computer hack, we shall see!!

The Biden campaign should use Ronald Reagan as an example, the happy warrior, Biden should not allow himself to get dragged in to fights with POTUS, he is NO BARACK OBAMA, the former VP has a foot in mouth problem.   The left elite are afraid of this and thus recent attempts to get Biden to say NO to the Presidential Debates, the left is afraid that Trump will eat him alive, they have a valid concern.   The Biden Campaign should stress positive aspects about the candidate and his campaign.   The Candidate should send a message of bringing people together and no more appeasing Moscow and remaking the agreement with Iran.   Biden has to be careful he does not lose this race before it has began.

This is a mistake for Biden to fight on Trump's ground, everyone knows Joe Biden is religious, thus Trump can come back and ask, if he is so religious why does he support abortion.   POTUS can argue that he Biden is two faced, the liberals get pro abortion but when facing his God, he claims to be religious.  Also Biden has to be careful with his words, the latest argument he has developed himself, was the view that the African - American community are united and have one voice, that means support for him, he has had to dial that back, as Trump has gone after him on this issue also.   In the next few days Biden has to chose his VP, it will be woman, and it should be a woman of colour.  Biden needs his how Bush 41 when he was Vice - President to Ronald Reagan, the ideal candidate would be Susan Rice, she fell on her sword for Obama over Libya, the Obama/Biden team owe her big time.

The US voter can expect POTUS to fight dirty, he is going for the classic D.C game of going after the strong points of the other candidate, Biden is known to be religious, by the end of the campaign Trump hopes to make him look like a far out leftist, who will place God on the ash heap and take away the guns of the US voters.  Let's recall that there will be 3 debates, and people start voting before the 1st debate.  One can expect hundreds of negative adverts from Trump, one only hopes that the Biden Campaign goes high, has a strong message, and will restore Presidential dignity to the Oval Office.  One can only hope!!

POTUS will break any rules to get a better poll numbers, let's recall that Jimmy Carter gave a convention speech in 1980 but then did the Rose Garden strategy when fighting Ronald Reagan for a 2nd term.  Those that decry Trump by saying its political are two faced, EVERYTHING in D.C is political, as when Carter did his campaign from the Rose Garden, giving the impression that affairs of state were to important to leave for a campaign, that did not work, Reagan won 44 States and become the 40th President.  Trump might think it would better to have a foreign policy crisis, do not be surprised if a conflict breaks out between the US and Iran, the bombing of Tehran might go down well the US voter.  There are many tricks that Trump can pull, its not over till the Fat Lady sings.   The Tehran Regime would be advised to keep quiet and not give Trump a REASON to bomb Iran.   They will get a better break from a future Biden Administration.

By the polls POTUS is a loser, his actions and interviews have been all over the place, he has not  helped himself and people are still under threat from COVID - 19.  On the other hand this blog's political gut is thinking it might be worth placing a £2.50 bet for Trump to win.  As I found in 2016 it was right, and I did win a £5 back.   Whatever the experts say and the polls we have to face the fact that a week is a long time in politics, also we have the debates to come, ,most people starting watching the news after Labour Day ( September 1st ) in the US.  Also Biden can not hide forever from Trump, the campaign experts are afraid that Biden will mess it up in the debates, that is a major concern.  Do not write off Trump yet, ( even if we all want too ) its a long road to the Oval Office.

Our Boris is doing well even with the COVID - 19 virus and endless Brexit talks going on and on.  The Labour Party has elected a solid leader IN Sir Keir Starmer, but he has to take on the left for the voters to trust him.  One way to show that he is NOW the leader would be to throw out the former Leader Jeremy Corbyn, he lead the Labour Party to its worse election result since 1935.   The UK voter wants Brexit DONE and for the Country to get over COVID - 19.   Thus so far so good for Boris, keep it up PM.

Lets Get Real:

The pharmaceutical firms in the UK should be doing the above without the UK Government having to tell them.  It is there commercial interest to have the products need by the NHS.  Also the patients of the NHS will need their medical support through out Brexit.  The UK Government has to be firm with these companies, it can not leave it for the last minute, what if the EU causes because they have not gotten the deal they wanted, if the place blocks on drugs coming to the UK form the EU.   The French fisherman are acting up on being blocked from UK waters after Brexit, the EU can not be trusted, so UK companies get ready, have supplies on hand, things could get nasty after December 31st.
