NYT and Afghanistan

The New York Times: An excellent Editorial by the liberal NYT on the problems the US faces in Afghanistan. Read of the Day.

Afghanistan Front News

MOD: Has announced the name of the UK Soldier that died in the UK on Wednesday of wounds sustained in Afghanistan, the Soldier was “ Lieutenant John Charles Sanderson from 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Cheshire) ”. Our thoughts are with the family of Lieutenant Sanderson.

Deaths in the UK and Afghanistan

MOD: Reports on the death of two UK Soldiers, one on Thursday and one Today, the Soldier that died in the UK of wounds sustained in Afghanistan came from the “ Gurkha Reinforcement Company, 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Cheshire) [1 MERCIAN] ”, the Soldier that died in Afghanistan came from the “ 21 Engineer Regiment, serving as part of Combined Force Sangin ”. Thus since 2001 the UK has lost 330 of its Armed Forces Personnel in Afghanistan, of that total it has lost 290 in combat operations and 40 due to illness, accidents or other incidents.

Get a MASSAGE courtesy of Labour!

Guardian: Reports that Coalition Government has opened the books on Labour spending while in power, they paid for massages and luxury trips. The term taking the biscuit comes to mind when one reads this article, while the banks has crashed, the UK was recession the Labour Government acted as if government money was its money, this blog would not have minded getting a paid government massage or nice trip, would have written more positive about Gordon Brown if this blog had gotten some of those perks, the shame of Labour.

Will Obama have a 1994 Election ?

CNN News: Reports on the latest poll for the US Mid Term Elections, in a generic poll of registered voters, the Republicans lead 48% to 45% for the Democrats. This is a narrow lead of three percent but one should take in to consideration the low poll ratings for Obama, as the polls notes Obama’s approval rating is at 47% while the Presidents negative rating stands at 51%, in other polls Obama is low down, thus it can be postulated that Obama will be drag on the Democrats, the President will be wanted to raise cash but Congressmen/women and Senators will be having route canal when the President turns up in their District or State. If we go in to a political time machine and the Hill has gone Republican, can Obama come back in 2012, the simple answer is NO folks, Obama is not a natural politician such as Bill Clinton, Obama needs the blind approval, with the Republicans in power saying NO a lot Obama is not pragmatic enough to move to the centre, thus my prediction that Obama will not run in 2012 or will lose by 48/49 States, if that is the result he cant say he was not warned of the election result, arrogance comes at a price folks, in less your right all the time your going to end up as a one term charismatic Jimmy Carter.

Obama’s Vietnam - Afghanistan

Telegraph: Reports that the new US Commander in Afghanistan General David Petraeus will argue that any troop withdrawal in 2011 from Afghanistan will have to be at a slow pace. After the sacking of the last US Commander and the hiring of General Petraeus the hero of the Iraq surge the Oval is hostage in many respects to Petraeus, the hero of the Iraqi surge allowed for the US to leave Iraq by 2011, that very hero could bring Obama down in 2012 should he resign and run against Obama in 2012 on the argument that Obama has by his policy throwing Iraq to Iran and allowing the Taliban to take over Afghanistan by any troop withdrawal. Thus Obama can not afford to sack General Petraeus, if he does any policy that the General does not agree with the General can let it be known on the Hill that any deaths are the fault of Obama and his arrogance, with the economy in a mess, the real jobless rate at around 16% Obama can not take on a real War hero in 2012, thus Obama has to listen or face being a warm act for Jimmy Carer after 2012, or even worse a non person like LBJ for many years after the Presidency. Afghanistan has becomes Obama’s War and Obama has become LBJ.

HISTORY not COOL - Cameron

BBC News: Reports that Coalition PM David Cameron has been critical of the tourism policy of the last Labour Government. The Last Labour Government stressed the modern not the history of the UK. Rather than stressing the long history of the UK and its historical sites the Labour Party wanted to start history with year 1 with its election, it wanted to return the UK to the heights of the 1960s when the UK, well London was the cool place to live and work, that policy by Labour was shallow and void of content, once Blair invaded Iraq the " Cool Crowd " did a runner from Labour, our history has more substance. Again Mr Cameron is right and Labour is stuck in its own void or backside!
