The process of vetting Lord Mandelson was not complete, he did not pass vetting.  The final push came from the FCO, one presumes under the orders from No 10.  Sir Keir should go, but knowing him he will find someone else to blame, plus we need him for the Ukraine.

This has three effects, it allows Trump to state he has solved another war, and still No Nobel Prize and helps with ceasefire talks with Iran, as Hezbollah in Lebanon is a proxy terrorist group of Iran, helps in talks between the US and Iran, expected next week in Pakistan.
