Liz Truss has a 20% lead over Sunak with Party Members - After Brexit / Boris

Lets Get Real:

The Conservative membership was more loyal to PM Boris than his MPs, they tend to be older, white, and to the right of their MPs.  Conservative Members want to see low taxes, a smaller state, and finishing Brexit.  Truss voted REMAIN in 2016 but she has become a CONVERT, and is now at the present pushing the Northern Ireland Protocol through the House of Commons.  While Rishi Sunak supported Brexit in 2016 but was very cool to the Protocol Bill when discussed in the Cabinet.  Liz Truss wants TAX CUTS NOW, that always goes down well with Party members and the general public.  Of course we have a long Summer to go, it would be risky to make a prediction, but his blog will take the risk, it will be Truss by a few % points, one can expect the Chancellor to take the fight to the Foreign Secretary, and there will be meetings for the party members to meet and grill the candidates, politicians make mistakes, let's see who can follow the script.   On the whole the blog is indifferent  about the result, Sunak has promised to rip up EU laws when he comes in to office, but first he has to get elected, Rishi just might be to rich even for Conservative members.  Thus on the whole on the Liz side, we have all made mistakes, Liz was a Liberal Democrat and Remainer, but she has reformed.  Thus political sins have to be forgiven.

The shock By - Election - Analysed - Post Brexit

Sky News: Reports " Chesham and Amersham by-election: Why the Tories should be worried by Lib Dems' shock win - and why it's not all bad news for Labour.. What we thought was happening after the May local elections may not be happening after all, says Sky's Sam Coates.  "

Lets Get Real:

I do not think you can postulate about the future due to one by-election, yes it can be argued that the PM has not given the South the attention it needs and wants, and the obsession WITH the RED WALL has gone to the head of Conservative HQ.  The PM will have to sooth the worried browse of Conservative MPs and make sure that local conservative associations are really linked to their locality and can warn HQ if things look bleak.  No one was expecting the Liberal Democrats to win, but they they threw the kitchen sink at the Seat, that will not be the case in 2024.   A week is long time in politics, four years is forever.

The Political Reality vs. Media Frenzy

Guardian: This poll must have shocked the living daylights out of the left wing Guardian, they have a new poll that has the Conservatives ahead of Labour, the poll finding are as follows, Conservatives 37%, Labour 36% and the Lib Dems at 16%. What is funny and I mean funny folks is that Labour under Ed Miliband is down three points, if you have been listening to the left wing press from the Guardian to the BBC you would have thought that David Cameron was on his way out, that his was Watergate UK style. The left wing media is now making accusations based on guilty by meetings, well if the Labour Party is going down that line it will be interesting to see when Tony Blair appears before the press inquiry, that should be an interesting time for Labour. As usual the left wing media are over reaching, yes the hacking case is serious, yes the police have questions to answer, so do the Courts, but all are very quiet on that, UK Judges are not afraid to throw people in jail for contempt of Court. That David Cameron was close to the Murdoch Empire, so what, has Labour lost its memory, lets hope the older hands row Ed Miliband back form his student view of the world.

Is Chris Huhne FINISHED ? - UK Coalition Government

Telegraph: Reports that the Liberal Democrat Energy Secretary Chris Huhne has denied asking his separated wife to take his driving penalty points in 2003. In the short statement that Mr Huhne gave to the press it looked like the game was up, the voice and body language showed a man waiting for the political guillotine, worse the press are sharks, they smell political blood in the water, and everyone it seems wants to give the Liberal Democrats a good kicking. This mess works well for the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Mr Huhne is his political rival, so if he stays he is damaged, if he resigns he will not be able to stand against Mr Clegg. No wonder Mr Clegg has been smiling of late.

Labour After David Laws = Coalition Front

Telegraph: Reports that Thomas Docherty a Labour MP has asked the Police to have a look at the expenses of David Laws. This on the whole seems quite petty by the Labour Party, one can postulate that since they have a few ex MPs in the big house they want to send a Lib Dem to jail. On the other hand Mr Laws did break the rules of the House of Commons and ex Labour MPs have been thrown in jail, so Labour is out for payback. But Labour has to be careful, Mr Laws stated that he hid his gay relationship as his family didn’t know, Labour can not afford the impression that is has a problem with gays, they vote also, liked everyone else, and they can make a lot of noise if they think that its their relationship status that is coming under question, not the main issue in the Laws Case, that being fiddling expenses.

The End Result - Election Day Review

BBC News: Reports on Election Day Results. Well folks it was a very good night for the Conservative Party, in Wales the Conservative Party gained 14 Seats, making them the 2nd Party of Wales after the Labour Party on 30 Seats. In the English Local Elections it was a miracle folks, thus far the Conservatives have added 81 ( as of 8.10pm ) Council Seats to their numbers, the Labour Party has gained 800 Council seats but this was at the expense of the Liberal Democrats and others. The Conservative Party overall had 35% of the vote to Labours 37%. Before the election night it was expected that the Tories would lose hundred of seats, this has not happened. Thus a great night for Coalition PM David Cameron. Also the Conservative Party with support of half of the Labour Party has won the NO vote in the AV referendum, a major defeat for the Liberal Democrats and Ed Miliband the Labour Leader. On the whole election night was a disaster for the Liberal Democrats, the junior partner in the Coalition Government has been battered in England, Wales and Scotland, there have been calls by some in the Liberal Democrats for the Party to have more of a distinct persona in the Government, this would be a mistake, your either in Government or not, that is the choice faced by Lib Dems. On the whole A+ for the Conservatives, C- for the Labour Party and D- for Lib Dems.

Liberal Democrats and Tuition Fees

Guardian: Reports that the Business Secretary Vince Cable has stated that his reform of tuition fees could be moved in the House of Commons while he and his fellow Liberal Democrats abstain. This is why Liberal Democrats are loathed by Conservatives and Labour supporters, the want it both ways, how can a Secretary of State abstain from his own idea, what comes first the Country or Party. The Lib Dems have to make a decision, are they in or out of Government, if they refused to support their own Secretary of State what is stop Tories from defecting on granting a referendum on AV. It is time for the Lib Dems to grow up. They wanted a Coalition Government will this is the price, not being liked by the left.

The New Peter Mandelson = David Laws

Telegraph: Reports that the former Chief secretary to the Treasury David Laws could make a return to the Coalition Government by Christmas if he does not get a severe rebuke due to his expenses claims. Lets recall Mr Laws is a leading Liberal Democrat and comes from a business background in the City, his term is office was the shortest on record just 17 days. Mr Laws is held in high regard by both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, thus if the rebuke and considering the facts the rebuke should be mild, one can see Mr Laws back in the Coalition Government, being a very effective Cabinet Minister.

The OCTOBER Test

BBC News: Reports that Coalition PM David Cameron has stated that October will be a testing time for the new Government, its in October that the public spending cuts really start to hurt. Lets hope the Lib Dems keep their political nerve, the Lib Dems will face something that they haven't faced since the early 20th Century, they will be hated, they will be seen as in bed with the Tories. The Lib Dem leadership under Nick Clegg will have to make sure that the Lib Dem backbench MPs don’t bolt to the Labour Party. This test will define if the Lib Dems can replace the Labour Party the second Party of the UK.

Kennedy for Labour ?

The Guardian: Reports on the hint from the Labour Party that the former Liberal Democrat Leader Mr Charles Kennedy could defect to Labour, this has been denied by Mr Kennedy. This sounds like a test balloon from Labour, seeing if they can cause a split within the Liberal Democrats, ones gut smells the fingerprints of past Labour spin masters, also it’s the political silly season, the Labour Leadership contest has not caught fire with the voters, this kind of story keeps Labour in the news, but its been denied, would Mr Kennedy really be happy in Labour or is this more to with the fact that Mr Clegg is Deputy PM after a short time as Lib Dem leader while the old Liberal Democrat leaders are the men of Yesterday.

Out of the Gloom! - DPM Nick Clegg

Telegraph: Reports on remarks by Deputy PM Nick Clegg, the Leader of the Liberal Democrats has stated that he can see some light at the end of this major economic recession. This is the time for Nick Clegg to be centre stage, Coalition PM David Cameron is on holiday, as the Lib Dems have fallen in the Polls the Coalition Government has to make an effort to get an upswing for the Lib Dems in the polls, thus DPM Clegg should be out very day, making news, making it appear that in words and fact that its an equal Coalition Government between the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democratic Party, the public spending cuts are going to be hard, thus both Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have to keep their nerve and also make sure that they don’t allow internal Party fights to break the Coalition.

Cameron on the UK Coalition

Telegraph: Reports that Coalition PM David Cameron is happy that he is in a Coalition rather than leading a majority Conservative Government. Of course Mr Cameron is happy, all the flak by Labour is being directed at the Liberal Democrats, the Lib Dems have seen their polls hit the floor while the Conservative Party as held in most polls at over 40%. It helps PM Cameron that he can tell the Conservative right that he cant be to right wing as the Lib Dems would walk out, of course the Lib Dems are not going to walk out and cause an election, they would be slaughtered in the polls. This is a perfect dream of your centre right Conservative, the budget cuts of Thatcher Era but removing the Labour yoke from various aspects of Civic Society, thus the reform of Education and the Welfare State. If the Coalition survives the Labour Party could be out of power for a generation.

End of an Era - The END for Jack Straw

BBC News: Reports that former Foreign and Home Secretary Jack Straw is to leave the Labour frontbench when a new Labour leader is elected in September. The biggest political mistake that Jack Straw made was not to deliver the political black spot to then Labour PM Gordon Brown, if heavy weights like Straw had shown Brown the door then the General Election result might have been different, a Labour / Lib Dem Government just might have been on the horizon. Thus all political careers in one way on another end in failure, it can be argued that Mr Straw failed when it mattered for Labour.

Cameron ATTACKS Labour over AV VOTE

BBC News: Reports that Coalition PM David Cameron has attacked the Labour Party for stating that it oppose the Referendum Bill before Parliament even after it was in their 2010 Manifesto. The reason that the Labour Party is withdrawing its support for the Referendum Bill is simple, the Bill will make Parliamentary Seats equal, in the old system it took more voters to elect Conservative MPs that Labour MPs; due to the fact that a majority of Tory Seats are rural; in other words Labour wants to keep its electoral plus. If the Bill is passed lets see how the Labour Party will react, will they support the change to AV or will they use the vote to get a dig in at the Coalition and support the Conservatives in rejecting the Bill. The aim would be to bring down the Coalition.

Iraq War " illegal " - Nick Clegg

Guardian: Reports on the remarks by the DPM Nick Clegg that the War in Iraq was illegal while he was standing in for PM Cameron at PMQs. As the article notes 10 Downing Street has stated that this is not the view of the Coalition Government, just the personal view of Nick Clegg the DPM of the Coalition. This might look like a mistaken comment but it helps Nick Clegg with his own Party. It shows that the Lib Dems have not been taken over by the Conservative Party, lets face it the Iraq War was not that popular with the UK voter. One can postulate that Cameron and Clegg have a common view on Afghanistan and Iraq but that the Conservative leader cant state such left wing views due to the right wing of the Conservative Party. Also Iraq is down to Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, helps the Coalition to divert attention back on the major mistake of Labour while in power. Spin within Spin folks.

Coalition Break over Referendum Vote ?

Telegraph: Reports that Lord Ashdown the former Liberal Democrat Leader has stated the Party will not walk away from the Coalition should it lose the Referendum on a change to the UK voting system. The question has to be asked what happens if backbench Tories and Labour MPs force an amendment through that states that for any change in the voting system must be approved by 40% of electorate. Thus the Lib Dems might win a Referendum but due to a low voter turn out lose the referendum. The Labour Party will place political minefields in the way of the Referendum vote, although a majority of the Leadership Candidates support a new voting system the Referendum Bill also balances the numbers of electors needed to elect an MP, thus this will hit inner City Labour MPs and help rural Torie MPs. This referendum could still bring down the Coalition folks.

The Cuts in Public Spending

Telegraph: Reports on a BBC Sunday Interview by the Deputy PM Nick Clegg, Mr Clegg stated that there was a need for public spending cuts that would hurt and was critical of the Labour Government under Gordon Brown, Mr Clegg stated that the former Government had spent knowing it would lose the election. In pure political terms PM Cameron has played this Coalition well, the Lib Dems will share in the blood of public spending cuts, thus Labour will have to attack both the Lib Dems and the Conservative Party. But Labour also has a problems in attack, the infamous note by a Labour Minister that the money had gone will be used against Labour, also the Coalition will blame the need for the cuts on the previous Government, also there is the fact that the Labour Party is looking for a new leader, thus some breathing space for the Coalition.

The Coalition Deal in Full - UK

Here it is folks the full UK Coalition deal between the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats. As far as this blog in concerned the main point is that the UK will keep its nuclear deterrence and will vote for any new powers for the EU. Those red lines should never be given away by PM Cameron. The file is in PDF format, Click HERE to Read.

Labour - No Money

I was watching the New Chief Secretary of the Treasury David Laws on the BBC's Daily Politics show and he stated that Labour Chief Secretary had left him a note, Mr Laws thought it was advice on how to deal with the Treasury or other Departments, no it was a lot simpler, it stated that there was no more money. The new Chief Secretary stated he would use this note against the Labour opposition in the House of Commons. This was the final mistake of New Labour, a Conservative Minister would have taken it as a private note of dark humour, the Libe Dems don't have a sense of humour that one can see, they tend to believe their own spin, thus in one way its was quite an insulting note, its like getting your dream job and finding that the company is broke and your the one to cut costs. I think one can say that the idea of a Progressive Left Alliance between Labour and the Libs Dems has been buried with New Labour.
