The West in the shape of the US and the UK must not accept the Taliban as the government in Afghanistan in till they allow all Western citizens to leave, and also allow Afghan allies who have the right to go to the West to leave Afghanistan.  Also that the Taliban allow women, girls to carry on with their education and to be allowed to work.  One hopes that MI6 and the CIA have agents in place to keep an eye on the Taliban, the Western news media will lose interest in Afghanistan as they do not have news teams there, it is to risky for the reporters.  Thus the News media will have to place their trust in local reporters to feed them stories as to what is going in Afghanistan. The answer to the problems in Afghanistan is NOT THE TALIBAN. 

The Iraq Front - Part 3 - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

In Iraq the basic strategy is to get the Iraqi forces to do the fighting, this has two reasons, the US voter does not want to see US Soldiers die in Iraq, also it shows that Iraq is a State with the forces required to defend itself, the US and its Allies can not stay there forever.  At some point Iraq will have to stand on its own.   In Syria it is more complicated, the Assad Regime and its backer Russia see rebels as a threat, thus they are more interested in fighting them, than on taking on Daesh, while the US wants to get rid of Daesh as it is seen as a threat to the the Middle East and the US/Western allies.   Thus it might take US ground troops, that would be the ultimate sell by this President.   Iraq and Syria are not going away fast, and it could get worse.

It is shock that that US troops are being wounded and it does not make the head of the news, lets us be honest here, Iraq and Syria stories do not get people to watch the news or click news sites for stories, it seems to be going on forever, after Obama withdrew US troops from Iraq we saw the birth of Daesh, that meant after taking forces out of Iraq the 44th President has to put them back in, so the the Wars he wanted to finish did not finish with President Obama, they have taken up another format, with Iraqi troops mostly doing the fighting and getting killed, while US Special Forces help with the air attack on Daesh.  The press should push the Oval on what is it going to do about Iraq and Syria, he promised change, well it time to show change and not play golf.

One can only hope that President Obama finishes off Daesh before President - Elect Trump takes over, as the Trump policy in Syria seems to be be to allow the Russians a free hand. The problem is that the Russians are attacking those groups that are opposed to Assad, while leaving Daesh alone.  The Obama Oval has nothing to lose, it should go all in to destroy Daesh, that would be  real victory, anything less would be a failure, and let's be honest Obama does not have a great track record when it comes to foreign policy.

The way the Obama Administration is fighting the War in Syria will lead to more US deaths.   The Oval in its final weeks in office should not be slow, it should bomb the hell out of Daesh, the Oval does not know what the Trump Administration will do when it comes into power in January.   The recount in Wisconsin it is said will not change the outcome, thus President Obama should hit Daesh HARD while he has the chance.

Lets Get Real:

At least in the last months of the Obama Administration the Oval has not taken its eye off the threat from Daesh to Europe and the US, the US needs to make sure that Daesh does not grow, its a viral cancer that needs to be destroyed.   The new HRC Administration needs to be tougher ( its a given that HRC will win ) the new President could place a no fly zone in Syria and use more special forces in Syria and Iraq, in many ways carrying on the Obama policy, who would have thought it has worked.   In between now and the election the security structure of the US and EU has to have its eyes and ears open, the threat from terrorism is on going and it will take years to crush Daesh.

Lets Get Real:

As noted by this blog and others the Allied attack on Falluja would be costly, the Daesh terrorist group is not going to give up without a fight.   Thus can hope that US and UK Special Forces are on hand to give advice to their Iraqi friends.  The hard part might not be getting in to the City, the hard part might be the IEDs left by Daesh and the humans taken as hostages.   It going to be a bloody slog, hard and violent, the Daesh terrorist group has to be buried.

The background noise from experts is that it will take more US and allied troops to get rid of Daesh, but the limited use of forces with drones has been successful for President Obama. The Daesh terrorist group has been pushed back in Iraq and Syria, the main battle in Syria will be for the city of Raqqa the Capital for Daesh.   In the house to house fighting there will many deaths, lets hope the US special forces have enough troops on the ground to win.  In Iraq the main fight will be for Mosul, that will also be bloody, one hopes are with the Western and allied forces doing the fighting.

At least it will be Iraqi and Kurdish forces doing the fighting, the UK training forces will not be at the front, one would assume that the SAS has protection against any chemical attack. The one good luck the West and its allies have is the fact that Daesh has no nuclear material, that would make it a great threat.   Let's hope MI6 and the CIA are blocking Daesh on the military black market, and that the Putin regime has control of its nuclear material.  The fight for Mosul will be bloody and it will take time, the West will need to train the Iraqi Army for years.

The Oval Office can call the troops whatever it wants, as long as US Special Forces are there to fight Daesh and train the local rebels, even if the battles in Syria are confusing, as to whom is fighting whom.   The Obama slow policy has worked, one should always give credit when its due, the Oval has taken its time, those caught up in the 24/7 news cycle wanted faster action, the best action is action that is considered.   Let's see what happens with the extra troops. 

More Special Forces for Syria - Daesh Threat

The US will need a lot more Special Forces in Syria and Iraq to take down Daesh, there will need to be house to house, street to streets searches and fighting.  One is under the impression that POTUS just wants to make sure that it does not lose in Syria and Iraq and will leave the problem to his successor.    This writer must admit it has been impressed at the success of the drone strikes and the US Special Forces helping in Iraq and Syria, if only President Obama has left them in place in 2011 then we might never have heard of Daesh.   If's are the curse of history, there is one thing that the left and right agree on, there can be no talks with Daesh, its a cancer that has to be removed.

Let's hope this prediction is wrong, the Syrian Crisis needs a strong President who will take the fight to the Russians, that does not mean WAR, it means making sure that the Russian Bear understands that there is a new man in the Oval and that his words will be followed by force.   One would wish for  A President Trump that takes an active interest in Syria and allows the US military to WIN in Syria, there needs to be no fly zones, free fire zones that allow the US special forces to take out the terrorist threat.   ON the whole this blog could support a President Trump that followed the outline of this article, not sure the Guardian was looking for that result.

As long as Daesh has bases in Syria, Iraq and Libya it is a threat to the West and to Western allies, the West under a new US President will have to do something, it can not wait for local forces to do the job, there is chance they are not up to it, the Iraqi Army has been having success of late, that does not mean that Daesh is on the way out, it needs US/UK Special Forces to take out the threat.    This means more boots on the ground, one does not want to think of Daesh with WMD, it would be  nightmare for the West and the Middle East.   Thus the West has to be ready for a ground war that will be bloody.

Once you start with planes to attack Daesh the next level is to bring troops in theatre to take and hold ground give up by Daesh.   It can be assumed that that the SAS is is Country and in supporting the Free Syrian Army with the help of the US Special Forces.   The Western government are speaking double speak, of course we have boots on the ground, you can call what ever you like, they are still UK and US soldiers on the ground.    This blog has already discounted that there are seventy thousand FSA soldiers on the ground waiting to attack Daesh, if there is that number they are fighting Assad, getting a ceasefire between Assad/Russia and the FSA so they could fight Daesh is a nice dream, but still a dream.   Thus in time both the US, UK and France will have to send in combat troops, its not a great thought but its the only one that is real

Lets Get Real:

The UK with or without the consent of the House of Commons should have drones in the air of Syria and Iraq 24/7, the drones should be looking for targets of interest, thus make Daesh afraid to move day or night.   One can assume that the SAS and US Special Forces are in Iraq and Syria, thus the drones are hitting the right targets.   There will be those on the left that wanted to give terrorists their rights, the terrorists do not have rights, the only rights they have is to be bombed or hit by drones strikes and by US/UK forces on the ground.   The left do understand the World after 9/11, thus they can never be allowed to come to power, they offer no defence, and at the end of the day the main job of the Government is to protect the State.

The murky world of Syria has become even more dense with the Russians coming to join the fight, it can be argued that Western Forces and Russian Forces should never be this close, it only takes a hot shot Russian pilot or a missile commander to shoot a missile that hits either Western planes or Western ground troops in Syria, it has already been stated by the US that they are sending special forces in to Syria, one can assume that US forces are already there, that is the same with the SAS.   Thus the UK should keep out of this mess for the near future, its going to get worse in Syria, sooner or later the UK and the US will have to send in ground forces to Syria and Iraq, lets not rush that moment.

President Obama does not want to lose Iraq to Iran or Daesh, lets be honest Iran now has more power in Iraq since the US left in 2011,  with Syria the Oval wants the removal of Assad at some time, but also a regime that is moderate, and is not actually hostile to the West, while allowing Russia to keep its warm water port.   The Syrian policy and to call it a policy would be kind to the Oval Office and to the rest of the Obama Administration, is a mess, the civil war started with moderates but President Obama would not fund them with arms, this policy was countered by the hawkish policy of Hillary Clinton, it can be postulated that Obama did not want another War in the Middle East before his re-election in 2012, well that has cost, the War in Syria is bloody mess, you have Assad, Russia and Iran on side, you have Daesh and other religious groups, and then you have the " moderates " the US and its allies.   The Obama Oval is going for the Vietnam path, gradual buildup, this is a mistake, either your all in or your just placing a plaster on the wound, and we all know the fate of the Vietnam War,

At leas the UK is on the same page as the US when it comes to drone strikes, the UK has been far to slow to use drones for this kind of clean up operation.   The Daesh Terrorists once they joined Daesh lose ALL their rights, they butchers and the lowest of the low, the left it seems is more concerned about the rights of terrorists than the right of the people of the UK to be defended agaisnt terrorist threats.    The UK and the US needs Special Forces in Syria to take the fight to Daesh, they are a major threat to the region and the World. 

Obama and Ramadi - New War on Terror

Lets Get Real:

Even the more limited liberal WP has had enough of the losing war policy of POTUS when it comes to Iraq.  One can understand why President Obama is wary, he knows that if he sends troops back in there will be losses, thus the candidate who promised to get the US out of Iraq and did so in 2011 would be forced to admit that he made a great strategic mistake in 2011 in taking ALL US troops out of Iraq.   Also the Liberal base of the Democratic Party would be up in arms,  at the end of the day POTUS might have no choice, if IS can get close to Baghdad this might force the US to send in US Special Forces to resuce the new government and the people of Baghdad.   Also POTUS can  not just wait to pass the buck on the Iraq War, there is nearly a year and half to go of the Obama Presidency, the IS might move closer to Baghdad or to other Middle East countries, thus better for the Oval to act when it is not under threat, if Obama waits he might get suckered punch by a threat to Baghdad.
