Lets Get Real:

After ALL the billions that the US and the West has given the Kyiv Government one can hope that the the Ukrainian Forces can take the fight to the Russians.  The Ukrainian Army is making the Russians pay for every inch of Ukraine land they take, but that is not enough, the Russians with their forces limited to South East Ukraine are gaining ground, the Ukraine Forces are being pushed back, thus the Biden Oval has to increase the arms and weapons that are sent to the Ukraine, and make sure they get there in time to help the KYIV forces.  POTUS also has to help Lithuania, the Russians are making threats after the Lithuanian Government went along with EU sanctions on Russia.  Thus the US should battle ready troops in to the area to protect LITHUANIA, they are part of the EU and NATO.  The WAR in the Ukraine could take YEARS, a lot of it trench warfare, like WW1, the Allies only won in 1918 because the US had sent fresh new forces and were ready to action, they also bought the Spanish Flue.

The real nightmare for the White House would be if Russia invades the Ukraine, while Iran announces to the World that it has the bomb, can the Biden Oval really deal with something like that, what could be worse is if these rogue nations form a secret alliance, not to come to each others support if a War breaks out, but to do their strikes in tandem.  One can only hope that the Israeli Mossad is keeping an eye on Tehran and its nuclear ambitions, and that Tehran is still a few weeks or even MONTHS from getting the bomb and that Russia is bluffing again, unlike the case with the Crimea, the Russians are already starting with FAKE news that the Ukraine is about to invade the CRIMEA, so out there its funny.  Also that Ukraine spies have been captured in the Russia and were planning terrorist acts, another one there for amateur fake news, the Russians are not even trying, if that is the best they can come up with they are really in trouble at the Kremlin. Thus Western Europe might be in a REAL CRISIS point in a few days IF Russia invades, what will Biden do, does he have the backbone to defend the Ukraine, also if Iran is stalling, how long can the Israeli Government be prevented from bombing Iran, it would be better if the US bombed, less chance of a REGIONAL WAR.  Also let's not forget COVID - 19 ( WE WISH WE COULD ), would either Russia or Iran really want to go to WAR with the pandemic on, it would be dangerous, let's recall the Spanish Flue came about due to World War and its carnage. 

New COVID - 19 restrictions in England and Scotland - Update 1 - Economy/Health

This is not a full lockdown as expected by some, it limits pubs etc to closing at 10pm, all that will do is make people who want a drink go out a few yours earlier or drink at home with friends.   There are limits as to how far you can restrict the British people, what happens if the new restrictions do not work and you have to use more heavy restrictions and fines.  One does wonder how the UK Government coped with the Spanish Flu of 1918, and they had a WAR to finish.  One does hope the boffins are right that such restrictions are needed, also one has to hope that the boffins get develop a vaccine, otherwise Christmas is cancelled or it will be a miserable one, Oliver Cromwell would have love that ( he cancelled Christmas while Lord Protector ).    As a poet once said and this blog is miss quoting, many miles to walk before a drink!

COVID - 19, 2nd Wave ? - COVID - 19, Update 1 - Health/Economy

Lets Get Real:

Let's recall that it was the 2nd wave of the Spanish Flu in 1918 that was more deadly than the first wave, so the UK Government is right to be concerned about another wave.  This blog has argued for a 2nd national lockdown for the whole of the UK, if lives are the main matter, then we have to take the economic hit, and it will be a massive economic hit, like nothing we have ever seen before, well no one alive.  The UK should lockdown for three months, in that period we should get a vaccine and then we can get the Country going, otherwise we could lose thousands more lives.  It will not be an easy decision by the PM.  The Country is coming out of the 1st wave, pubs indoors are just going to open in  Wales and what about the food voucher by the Chancellor, the economic hit could be BIG for a 2nd lockdown.

The Welsh like the rest of the UK economy is going down the drain, the UK Government and the regional Governments have to get the economy moving, they managed that during the Spanish Flu of 1918.  There is a risk of more lives being lost, but if there is no push to the economy millions will be out of work, and how much stress will that cause for people and the NHS.  The Government will have to take the risk, its people vs the economy, as it was always going to be about if there was no COVID - 19 vaccine.  The UK economy can not be placed in suspension and there being no reaction, for every action there is a reaction.  Time for the UK to wake up!!

The question is how much pressure will the UK Treasury place on No 10 to get the UK economy moving.  How much Billions will be added to the national debt by COVID - 19.  Will the Conservative backbench MPs start to worry about 2024 and the general election.  The PM has had COVID - 19, he knows how pressure it places on the body and how long it takes to recover.  The PM does not want a second wave of COVID - 19 that could be worse than the first wave was, that is what happened with the Spanish Flu in 1918.  It is better to be careful than find you want more body bags in October.  At least the Labour Party under its new leader is an effective Opposition, it has to be careful that it does not jump to far ahead of the public, that could be dangerous in political landmines terms.

If this was 1918 and the World had COVID - 19 it would have the same result as the Spanish flu.  There would be millions NOW Dead, modern meds has curtailed the power of the virus, the worry should be if it mutates, then that would kill millions.   The Covid - 19 danger will pass, it it passed with the Spanish flu, the lesson is the NEXT time and there will be a NEXT TIME, the World has to be ready, it has been 102 years since the Spanish Flu, and the World was not ready for COVID -  19, next time, we should spend the years in between making sure that the Medics have what the need and do not end up playing God, having to decide who lives and who dies.  Mother Nature is an unforgiving Mistress, it demands respects and needs to be feared, in less you think Covid - 19 is an ACT of GOD, then it's his Master plan.  Covid - 19 can put you off the religious thing, so many deaths, so many young people, what kind of God does that.

Let's always remember those that have killed by COVID -  19, it is the modern version of the Spanish Flu, let's be honest how many knew what the Spanish Flu was before the latest version of it landed on our doorstep.  Time has a way to make us forget, it heals wounds and people find the subject depressing.  One should recall that in 1918 people had World War One on their minds, and there was censorship of the news about the outbreak.  To recall those that have died of COVID - 19 and will die the Government should have a yearly update plan for a virus like COVID -  19.   The Government can not plan for everything, but it should plan for a virus attack, next time it could be a biological weapon attack, the UK should always be ready.

The above is the medial FACTS, that is why the UK Government has announced tough restrictions on the UK. The question is how long can you lock down the UK and that goes for the EU as well.  At some point people will just get fed up, they will want to go out, without fearing that they will be fined. They will want to go out the pub or just to meet up with friends. Thus the question, when is enough, enough, there will be a cost either way.   The banning of people going to their favourite pub or to have tea and coffee with their friends can't last for more than a year, the economy will go off a cliff and people will go nuts just being inside.  The Police will soon get fed up telling people to go home or face a fine, so un - British.  Interesting times ahead.

The Italians and most of Europe is under lockdown, it will be interesting to see how long British voters will put with these restrictions, they go against what it means to be British, publs closed, not allowed to go out for a walk, and if you do you faced been fined by the Police.  The UK Science community should be working 24/7 for a cure to COVID - 19.  The UK economy will go in to free fall if the lockdown lasts for weeks or months.   The pub industry already in BAD SHAPE, could decline by their thousands.   The question is will the lockdown have any effect, the Italians have been in lockdown for weeks and their death rate has shot through the roof, the same with Spain.   It has been nearly 101 years since the Spanish Flu, the West should have thought something like this would happen, history does tend to repeat itself.

If you need for shopping one can understand, but NOT FOR A DRINK, it sounds harsh and not very fair, but we are at WAR with a killer virus, no one for sure knows how it will go, today the Government closed down schools, and stopped those who pay rent from being evicted over the next three months.   This virus is like the Spanish Flu of 1918, WE have learned a lot since then, we must listen to the science experts and the Government.  DO NO GO OUT.

This was the case before the World Heath Organization stated it was a pandemic, they have been very slow off the mark, could be because China is a major power and the WHO did not want to annoy it.  In fact WHO has said some nice things about how China has dealt with the virus, it seem to have forgotten it is dictatorship, thus can control its people.   The kinds of methods used in China would cause a riot in the West, people graped of the street if they have the virus, people dragged from their homes, not exactly a liberal democracy.  The UK might have to CLOSED DOWN Schools, Universities, ban gatherings of over a thousand, but could the UK really lock down the entire Country, the economy would fall apart.

The Labour Party might have won the argument on Austerity but they FAILED to win 4 General Elections.   The Conservative Government can be trusted to open the flood gates when it comes to spending because it has followed through with a tough austerity plan and thus has the money ready for such a crisis as COVAD - 19.   The Chancellor has stated that the NHS can have all the money it wants when it comes to COVAD - 19.   There are welfare reforms for those hit by COVAD - 19.   The Government has promised a 175 billion for roads and buildings.  There is good news for drinkers. there will be no increase in the cost of beer or wine, also car drivers will be happy, no extra charge for petrol.   This was a big budget by the Chancellor, 30 billion to cover COVAD - 19 and its effect on the economy, the Labour Party will wonder what happened to their policies, they were stolen in large part by PM Boris.

The UK economy could take a MAJOR HIT, also the US just before the Presidential Election.  The US/UK Governments so far have played it well, not going into panic mode, but being careful with their public comments.   That plaster will come off tomorrow, the UK and US must plan to close down air travel and sea travel, even CLOSE it borders, no one in or out.  That might be the most drastic action, millions could suffer the effects of the disease and some might die, the medical view is that 2% of the 100%of those that get the disease face that result, that could be hundred of thousands in the cold eye of day.  This is still no time to PANIC, the West got through the Spanish flu and medicine then was not up to the 21st Century standard.

The UK Government should be ready to close down, Schools, Universities, limit gatherings of under five thousand that has been done abroad, STOP the football season, and other public events.  The Government better be tough NOW and get the critical review out of the way, if it saves one life, so be it.   The UK Government has taken its time, when compared to the rest of Europe, of course it might be following medical advice, one hopes that the US and the UK is following the advice of the experts.   It is not a time to panic, no rushing to buy foods or toilet rolls, we are not at death's door yet!! NO PANIC.

If the Coronavirus does hit the UK, the Government should think about shutting the entire UK off, close ALL THE BORDERS, no flying, no travelling by sea, a complete STOP, think of it as an early no deal BREXIT.  MIGHT as well getting the planning in, it kills two problems at once,  no spread of the disease and we get ready for a NO DEAL BREXIT after 2020.   The UK has to be protected at all costs, does not matter how it goes down with the press or the people, if the disease becomes another Spanish Flu it could kill hundred of thousands, thus the first duty of government is to protect the people at all costs.   But and this is a very important BUT, this blog does not think it will happen.  One should always be prepared, that what the Scouts taught me before they threw me out for being lazy and not turning up.!!

The question is are we seeing another Spanish Flu ( 1918 ), that killed millions, more than died in World War one.  This blog would suggest caution, modern medicine is a lot better that after WW1.   Also Governments around the World are taking care who enters their Countries.   The death toll of the latest virus might be in the low thousands by the time it ends, and it will end, but not in the millions, the virus would have to mutate to get around the latest regulations by Government.  Thus if your are watching the TV 24 hour rolling news, it is to early to order your casket, the problem will be solved.

The UK voter will like the challenge of telling the EU to bugger off, there will be a few troubling spots on they way, but as with any change they can be ironed out over time.  The Conservatives have to play in to theme, of US the UK against those in Europe and at home who want to be run from Brussels, thus the Surrender Act.  The UK has always done well when faced with troubling aspects, it can be argued that we are at our BEST when faced with fraught developments.  Think Dad's Army ( TV Series ), at Wars and Royal events we have no equal.

One can expect the REMAIN papers and channels, that includes BBC News and Sky News to focus on the BAD NEWS of Brexit.   The Pound goes up and down, the point of the story is to undermine support for Brexit, make the people peeved at the government for making their pound do less when they are abroad.  Those that support LEAVE has to counter these arguments with the FACT that no one knows what will happen on the 1st of November if the UK leaves without deal.  Airplanes will fly, boats will go in to ports, a banana will get to the shops, we got through WW1, the Spanish Flu, WW2 and the end of Empire.  This is the change for the UK to reclaim her Greatness. 

May MEETING with the EU - Brexit Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

PM May has to be TOUGH with the EU, she has to get what she wants, a modification of the backstop or she walks away.  The PM should show the EU that she means it by sending the House of Commons in to recess and use the Royal Prerogative to get the UK ready for a HARD BREXIT.   The UK managed to get through WW1, WW2, the Spanish Flu, the Cold War, we can get through a few trucks having to take their time at the PORTS.   The EU should be told that they will not get their 39 billion, they can take us to COURT, at whatever the result they still wont get the money.   The HARD REMAINERS will try to thwart Brexit, the Government must keep control of the process.  The meeting today will be VERY INTERESTING.
