One can hear the FCO Mandarins NOW, saying the UK can do nothing, that the Foreign Secretary should visit Iran and the tanker seized in Gibraltar should be LET GO.   The FCO is like the BBC, it forgets it is there to protect UK interests not some other side.   The UK can not be BLACKMAILED, if we give in to Iran, then they will try something else, this time against the Americans, that might be a VERY BAD IDEA.  The UK for once should stand firm, the COBRA meeting should think what Lady Thatcher would do in such a case.   One thing they can do is send more Royal Navy Ships to the region, with the authority to take military action if any UK ships, Royal Navy or tankers come under threat from Iran.  When will the UK stop appeasing Iran!!

The above is TOMMY ROT as they used to say in my day, it is LIE, the UK Tanker was in international waters, the Tanker was taken by Iran as a result of the UK taking an Iranian tanker in Gibraltar.   In the 1930s there was Winston Churchill who warned about the threat from Nazi Germany, in the early 1980s Reagan coined the phrase the " Evil Empire " for the USSR, at the end of the 80s the Cold War was finished and so war the USSR within a few short years.  When looking at the modern leadership today,  who will stand up to appeasears, the US shot down a Iranian drone as a counter to Iran shooting down a US drone, but the Trump Oval did not strike Iran, thus Iran thought it could get away with taking a UK tanker.  Sometimes when leading you have to face down the enemy and be willing to finish them off.   As stated what happens IF and WHEN Tehran gets the nuclear bomb, it will be to late then.  Appeasement gets you WAR.

This is DIRECT BLACKMAIL by Iran, the UK has a Iranian tanker in Gibraltar, the Tehran Regime it can be assumed wants a trade, the problem is that any trade NOW, would look like appeasing an aggressor, also if Iran is successful, they might try something else.  What if they go after a US flagged tanker, will Trump carry on holding a small stick, or he will get his head out of the sand and DO SOMETHING about Iran.   What happens when the day arrives and Iran has the bomb, it would be ever more of THREAT, very much like North Korea.   At least the tyrants of Iraq and Libya were taken down before they become a nuclear threat.  At some point Iran will have to be dealt with, the appeasement of the Foreign Office will have to be overlooked for the REAL WORLD.   Appeasement gets you War, one really must learn the lessons of the 1930s.

It can be postulated that the thwarting by the Royal Navy of Iran from taking a UK commercial tanker will lead Tehran to try such an operation again, also with the arrest of the Captain and Chief Officer of the tanker taken in Gibraltar will lead Iran to try and save face and taking a UK tanker or UK personnel.  Also Tehran is on the way to getting the bomb, as stated by this blog and may others, that will not be allowed to happen, thus one can expect Saudi Arabia and Israel to start having off the table talks about taking joint action, my enemy of enemy is my friend as the old saying goes.  One gets the feeling that the Gulf is on a slow burn to something happening, the question is when will someone go to far, when will that unofficial red line be passed, something has to give.

The Tehran Regime is a rogue regime, it is trying to get back at the UK for the taking of a Iranian sanction busting tanker that was taken in Gibraltar by UK military forces.  The escalation by Iran from mining ships to the attempt of taking a UK commercial vessel shows that the Trump sanctions are working, the Tehran Regime is feeling the pressure.  The US should increase sanctions, make it impossible for the Iran theocracy to run the Country, make the people unhappy, get them on the streets, thus forcing Tehran to DEAL, on Western terms, no nukes, no more terrorism, no missile tests, in other words behave like any other Country.   This is a developing story.

BBC News: Reports " Royal Marines have boarded an oil tanker on its way to Syria thought to be breaching EU sanctions, the government of Gibraltar has said.  "

Lets Get Real:

This will not go down well with the Tehran Regime, it will be seen by Tehran as the UK siding with the Americans against Iran.   The fact that the ship was carrying oil to a EU sanctioned nation will not matter.   One can expect a lot of shouting from Tehran over the incident.  One assumes the oil will be taken off and the ship allowed to go on its way, of course there might be legal issues, will the owners of the tanker be fined, will the crew face legal action for taking on illegal cargo.   It will be interesting to see what Iran does, it has the US on its back already it does not need the EU to place sanctions on Iran.   Developing story.
