It should be noted that Baghdad sent in militias in to Tikrit, but the job had to be finished by the US air force after the militias pulled back due to the attack being stalled. The US needs US Special Forces in Iraq, and lot of them, yes this blog sounds like a broken record on this, if you can not hold the ground your in trouble. Also more Baghdad uses the Shia militias the more influence Iran has in Iraq, this is a troubling development to the Sunni population and to the US, also it has to be noted that Tehran and US are in talks to stop their development of the bomb, if this fails you will see arms race develop in the MIddle East. As bad Iraq and Syria look it gets worse when you look at the details.
