The White House: Statement from President Obama on the death of Lady Thatcher. President Obama stated the following, " With the passing of Baroness Margaret Thatcher, the world has lost one of the great champions of freedom and liberty, and America has lost a true friend. As a grocer’s daughter who rose to become Britain’s first female prime minister, she stands as an example to our daughters that there is no glass ceiling that can’t be shattered. As prime minister, she helped restore the confidence and pride that has always been the hallmark of Britain at its best. And as an unapologetic supporter of our transatlantic alliance, she knew that with strength and resolve we could win the Cold War and extend freedom’s promise.
Lets Get Real:
These are kind words out of the Oval, the 80's had three great leaders, in the US there was President Reagan, in the UK we had Margaret Thatcher and finally the USSR had President Gorbachev. These great leaders came together to end the Cold War, in the early 80's Reagan called the USSR an Evil Empire, his Cold War approach was supported by Lady Thatcher, in response the old Guard in the Kremlin appointed Gorbachev as a counter to Reagan, this of course lead to the end of the Cold War, the unification of Germany and the demise of the USSR. The leaders that came after Reagan, Thatcher and Gorbachev were not in their league, the greats only come around once in lifetime, this blogger was proud to have supported Reagan and Thatcher and had great admiration for Gorbachev, those were the days folks.
