No Other Choice Mr President - WP

The Washington Post: Has an interesting Editorial on the Obama search for a policy in Afghanistan, in essence the the The Washington Post is stating that Obama does not have a choice, he can only win by following the McChrystal plan. Any different plan the WP writes would " repeat the strategic errors of the Bush administration...... It likely would mean accepting hundreds more deaths of U.S. and allied troops in the next year...." Thus should President Obama follow the Biden plan this blog will go out for the UK to get its troops out of Afghanistan. If Obama does not have the backbone to support his troops in the fox holes of Afghanistan then the UK should not lose one of its Armed Forces Personnel in Afghanistan, we should get out yesterday. The Obama Administration has shown a weakness that is hard to imagine without thinking of Neville Chamberlain. Thus lets see the details of the new Obama plan for Afghanistan, if its some muddle on Afghanistan, a half way house, this is how to lose a War. Also more attacks on Al Qaeda in Pakistan could bring down the secular government, does Obama want to hand over Pakistan to the Taliban of Pakistan.

Biden WINNING Afghan Policy ?

The New York Times: An article that gives the impression that VP Biden is winning the debate in the Obama Administration as to the future of Afghanistan, the NYT writes the following, " by emphasizing the campaign against Al Qaeda in Pakistan while arguing that the Taliban in Afghanistan do not pose a direct threat to the.... ( USA ) " As the NYT points out this view of the Taliban as not a long term threat to the USA is being countered by both Secretaries of State and Defence. If President follows the Biden advice the Taliban and Al Qaeda will throw the biggest party in Afghan history. The lack of resolve if this action would tell Iran that Obama does not have the backbone to deal with them, thus they can go nuclear, Israel will have to hit Iran, also Poland and the Czech Republic would know that if Russia tried to increase their area of influence to Poland and the Czech Republic the Obama Administration would sell them out. Lets hope this article is a Biden spin job, otherwise the USA has just elected Neville Chamberlain to be President till 2012. At least after Jimmy Carter the USA got Ronald Reagan, who on the Republic side can fill the shoes of the Gipper, by 2012 the USA will need a leader. Also by the extension of drone attacks in Pakistan the USA could place Pakistan under threat of the Taliban of Pakistan.

The New York Times: Reports on the latest Obama Strategy for Afghanistan, the President has stated to Congress as reported by NYT, that " he would not substantially reduce American forces in Afghanistan or shift the mission to just hunting terrorists there,.." Thus NATO and Afghanistan have to wait for Hamlet of the Oval to make his mind up, the fear must be that the President will try a middle course, thirty thousand troops and more drone attacks on Pakistan, as my recent post on Pakistan the NYT found that the US presence in Pakistan is causing problems for the secular government of Pakistan. Thus if the President is not going to reduce troops and change to the Biden path what in the hell is President Obama going to to about Afghanistan, as he stated in March the fate of Pakistan is linked to Afghanistan, thus if he does not totally back McChrystal the War in Afghanistan will become more his War, by the way when did Obama go to West Point, if he decides another path and more soldiers are killed the deaths will have been caused by a President who has allowed his own arrogance and the fear of the Democratic Left wing to define ins Foreign Policy.

This shows how a the arrogance of a new West Wing team can bite the Administration in the backside down the line, someone has to fall on their sword or be pushed, in this case its Greg Craig, this is the second article that names Mr Craig as the fall guy, there was a hatched chop in the Washington Post a few weeks ago, its time for West Wing Aides to cover their own positions and thus Mr Craig will find that he does not have parking space at the White House in the near future.

Biden's Advice on Pakistan

The New York Times: It has been reported that VP Biden has advised President Obama to draw back in Afghanistan and hit Al Qaeda in Pakistan, the NYT reports on the negative view of the USA at the present in Pakistan, the NYT writes the following, " Even at its current levels, the American presence was fueling a sense of occupation among Pakistani politicians and security officials.." Thus think how the secular government of Pakistan will react if Obama follows the Biden advice, to really hit Al Qaeda hard in Pakistan the US drones would need widen their target range, Obama has already increased drone attacks, this lead to innocent deaths in Pakistan. It should be recalled of late that the Taliban of Pakistan had Islamabad within their grasp, they just has sixty miles to go to take over Pakistan. Imagine this 3am case study, Obama is sleeping and there is call, Islamabad has fallen to a Taliban coup, the nuclear weapons of Pakistan could be in the hands of the Taliban, India wants US troops on the ground in Pakistan now or they will use a nuclear strike to prevent a Taliban Pakistan. It is simple folks, the US can use drone attacks up to a point, but to much force and you could have Afghanistan and Pakistan as basket cases, this would finish the Obama Presidency, and all the blame would belong to Obama for following the advice of Biden.

Not BACKING our Troops = New Labour

BBC News: Reports that General Sir Richard Dannatt, recent head of the UK Army has stated that UK PM Brown would not back up troops on the ground in Afghanistan. This outspoken negative view of PM Gordon Brown does recall the recent statements of General McChrystal and his not to subtle attack on the idea of VP Biden for the US to reduce its footprint in Afghanistan and use drones to attack Al Qaeda in Pakistan. One gets the impression that both US and UK military services are not going to take the fall for their Lords and Masters should Afghanistan fail. In other words its simple, the military is telling the President or PM " Follow Our Advice on Afghanistan or its YOUR Fault if we LOOSE " Lets see what President Obama does, if he does not follow the McChrystal advice its his war, if he is right he gets the applause but if he is wrong he will will not get re-elected and the Democratic Party will be out of Office for more than twelve years this time, Obama makes Carter look tough, he is more Hamlet that Ronald Reagan.
