Ashdown and Afghanistan

BBC News: Reports that Lord Paddy Ashdown has decided that he does not want to be the UN Special Envoy to Afghanistan. The reason is that Afghanistan has gone off the idea. Lets think, British actions of late in Afghanistan have come under critical review of the government in Kabul and also lets not forget Afghanistan was part of the great game of British Empire Politics. The people of Afghanistan have a long memory, they still go on about defeating the British in the 19th Century, thus on the whole Lord Ashdown had made the the right move.
