Also it has to be asked did the vast spending of LBJ really help African - Americans and other ethnic groups, at present African - Americans as a group have been hard hit by the economic downturn, also on the civic side we have seen the breakdown of the African - American family and more US Blacks are in US prisons than any other ethnic group. Thus so the question has to be asked what has the Democratic Party ever done for African - Americans, it has it can be argued created a welfare dependent structure, the aims of the Great Society might have been noble but the results are a matter of debate. As the Gipper stated he was trying to repeal the damage of the Great Society.
