Telegraph: Reports that the Coalition Government plan to remove the structural deficit by 2015 has been revoked, the article states the following on the statement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, “ He instead announced plans to continue cutting public spending until 2017.…. he will have to campaign for the 2015 general election against the background of another austerity agenda. ”. As the Chancellors No 2 at the Treasury a Liberal Democrat support the statement on Newsnight it does raise an interesting question, in effect the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats will be tied in economic terms when it comes to the 2015 election, as the cuts will go in 2017 it has to be asked is the leadership of the Liberal Democrats taking the Liberal Democrats in to a joint election with the Conservatives, they can hardly resign in 2014 and say its nothing to do with them, this might benefit the Coalition PM David Cameron, if the Conservatives and Lib Dems run a semi joint platform, they will beat the Labour Party. The interesting possibility raises the question what will be the reaction of Conservative and Lib Dems MPs, in essence the Lib Dems are tied even more to the Conservative Party when it comes to economic matters, they have agreed cuts well in to 2017, SIX years of austerity, thus this blog would not be surprised to see a election pact between the two Parties, either they hang together or they might get hung apart. Lets get real folks, the Labour Party will never go in to Coalition with Nick Clegg, that is a non starter, thus if Mr Clegg want to stay as DPM he will have to get more in to bed with the Conservative Party. The left of the Lib Dems will be spitting feathers folks, but that’s the fun part of politics folks, the voters decide not the elite, lesson there for Italy and Greece.
