Thus far President Obama and PM David Cameron seem to have gone to the same school as UK PM Neville Chamberlain, they are giving the impression of Appeasement when it comes to the Libyan revolt, they have allowed the Mad Dog Colonel Gaddafi back in to the game, the Gaddafi game is to call the bluff of the West, the last time he got it wrong was with Ronald Reagan, it was a costly mistake. The White House has released a read out of the conversation between POTUS and the PM, the leaders agree that, “ the common objective in Libya must be an immediate end to brutality and violence; the departure of Qadhafi from power as quickly as possible; and a transition that meets the Libyan peoples’ aspirations for freedom, dignity, and a representative government. The President and the Prime Minister agreed to press forward with planning, including at NATO, on the full spectrum of possible responses, including surveillance, humanitarian assistance, enforcement of the arms embargo, and a no fly zone. ”, thus far all we have had from the Oval and 10 Downing Street is hot air and no action and people are getting killed in the West and East of Libya. In the UK one is hearing the typical Foreign Office, that it’s a slippery slope to take action in the internal affairs of other countries, that time is needed, in other words by the time the FCO gets off its backside Gaddafi will have won and thousands of people will been slaughtered. This is the 1st real test for Obama, he did not inherit Libya, he cant blame Bush 43, if it goes wrong its down to him, no else, his ego cant match the battles on the ground. In the case of David Cameron he is getting that Blair itch to take action, even after being critical of Blair Foreign Policy. The West does not have all the time in the world, if Gaddafi with his planes, helicopters, and security forces can suppress this revolt it will be down to the feeble and cowardly inaction of the Oval and 10 Downing Street. Doing the right thing is hard, the UN is a busted flush, China and Russia will never agree to a No Fly Zone, it could be used on them later! Thus time for the successor to Ronald Reagan and Lady Thatcher to learn from these leaders and take action, history will judge them harshly should they fail.
A look at the Politics of the United States and the UK. The Foreign Policies of both countries and how they behave in the International Community.
