The West has to support the Ukraine, or it could be Poland or the Baltic States next and they are NATO members. Putin wants to return to 1997, he seem to have missed the point of the fall of the USSR, the WEST won that WAR. The Biden Oval has to warn the Russians, they also have nuclear weapons, they will not use them first, but they will finish any war started by Putin. The NEW COLD WAR 2 has started in earnest with the invasion of the Ukraine.
