BBC News - Live Blog: Reports in its 4.53pm post the following, " The downing of the Russian airliner by IS, and Moscow's onslaught against IS targets appeared to suggest that Russia, the West and the moderate Arab states were coming into alignment. But as the Russian air attacks against Turkmen positions show, Moscow is still intent on bolstering the Assad regime against some of its other opponents, whatever may be happening on the counter-IS front. .."
Lets Get Real:
As suggested by this blog and others a Russian airplane pushed its luck with Turkey, of course it is not possible to say if the Russian pilot acted under orders or was a hot shot who thought he could tweak the Turkish nose. As expected the Russians are all fury, so far they have lost a fighter plane and a helicopter that was sent to rescue the downed crew, so far from reports it seems that the crew were shot down as they came in to land on the Syrian side of the border. There are no reports of any deaths from the helicopter. The problem for the West and Russia is Syria, the Russians see Daesh as a threat but Moscow wants to keep Assad in power at all costs, thus they are attacking Assad enemies, while the West wants the back of Assad and for the Russians to take the fight to Daesh. After the bombing of the Russian plane and the Paris terrorist attacks the West wants to take action, but the problems IN Syria are difficult to solve. Thus how will the present crisis end, well Putin has been highly critical of Turkey, but he is no fool, thus no action, the Turks have called in NATO. The NATO alliance should support Turkey, minus doinging anything. That is how is should end, egos hurt and with low cost of lives, lets see if the West, Turkey and Russia can act like grown ups.
