It has been estimated that it will take three years to destroy IS in Iraq and Syria, that might be to conservative, without that dreaded word, " boots on the ground " this War could take decades, air power alone will not do the trick, if IS is pushed back it needs either Iraqi Forces or Western Forces to hold and keep ground. At some point the US and its allies will run out of things ot bomb, then what, IS are not fools, they will it can be assume change their ground tactics, less large movemetns, more back to terrorist attacks in Iraq and Syria. One can assume that President Obama wants to contain the WAR in till 2017 and then handover the problem to his successor, thus the new President will have Afghanistan still going on and a long air war in Iraq and Syria. Of course will IS allow Obama to handover the problem, if they control the Syrian border they could start attacks on Turkey, a NATO member, thus Obama would have no choice but to defend Turkey with ground troops, all for one.
