BBC News: Reports on comments by the Coalition PM David Cameron that Council tenants should not have a Council house for life or that they should be able to pass it on to their decedents. This is in keeping with the point of the welfare state, council houses should be there for those in need, if council tenant gets a good job and can afford to move then they should move to private residences, the Thatcher era allowed Council tenants to buy their houses but that was then this is NOW, Councils around the UK have long lists of people who need new houses. It should be future policy if a Council house is sold for a profit then some of that profit should be returned to a trust to build new houses. it’s a tough time folks, there will be hard choices.
