BBC News: Reports on the deaths of the US Ambassador to Libya J Christopher Stevens and three other US Diplomats after the US Consulate in Libya was attacked by Islamic extremists.
Lets Get Real:
This is sad news from Libya and the families of those killed are in the thoughts of this blog. The political reaction could be VERY negative for the Oval, one of the main fight backs at the DNC was the argument that President Obama was strong when it came to Foreign Policy, this has taken a battering with the row with the Israeli PM over a meeting and now these deaths. Lets be very frank folks, it does not take much courage to order a hit as Obama has done with Al Qaeda terrorists leaders, the only people that would object are extreme liberals. At the of the day its drone strike in the badlands of the Afghan/Pakistan border. The real make or break decisions are when you place large troop footprint on the ground, yes Obama has done surges in Afghanistan, and then give a timetable for when they are leaving, the Taliban really love that idea. In the Libyan War the Oval lead from behind, the main PR was done by the UK and France, Obama is scared stiff of losing the left wing base of the Democratic Party, thus do not expect much US action in response to the murder of the US Ambassador, it would take boots on the ground, something the Oval can not afford eight weeks out of an election. The same with the Iran crisis, Obama has snubbed the Israeli PM and his request for a meeting, the Israeli PM was expected to ask when the US was going to take action in Iran. The Oval is NEVER going to strike Iran, the Oval's main plan is to keep Israel from taking action and then accepting a nuclear armed Iran. This is why Tehran does not care what the Oval says, they have his number.
