The Times: Reports on the low spirits of US soldiers in Afghanistan. If one takes Afghanistan out and replaces it with Vietnam the War in Afghanistan for the soldiers has direct indications of Vietnam. At its essence is that the enemy can never really be taken prisoner or destroyed, it like drowning slowly, the solders are in a constant war that they cant win. That's why Afghanistan policy is nightmare, what ever you do soldiers will die, its the same problems LBJ had over Vietnam, no matter what policy is in place it will never be enough and sooner or later the War will destroy your Presidency, it happened to LBJ it will happen to President Obama. If one is being objective about Afghanistan, one could happily walk away but one is left with Pakistan, if Pakistan did not have the bomb one could walk away from that country also, in fact the the USA did after USSR was forced out of Afghanistan. The problem is that once the USA left Afghanistan after the USSR left, the Taliban took over and then we had Al Qaeda thus 9/11 and the death of three thousand people. The Taliban in control of a nuclear armed Pakistan, would make Vietnam,Iraq, and Iran look happy hour at the local. Thus the spirits of the soldiers might be in the toilet, the casualty rate is going through the roof, the Kabul Government is bent, the US public is going wobbly, VP Biden thinks this Vietnam all over again, President Obama cant leave Afghanistan, if he does wobble folks buy a nuclear bunker, because Obama will make you wish for Jimmy Carter back in the Presidency.
