If the West in the shape of the USA, UK and NATO was to lose Afghanistan the effects could be dangerous for Pakistan and India, Pakistan might fall to the Taliban/Terrorists, thus conflict with India. The West would face more infamous dates like 9/11, and 7/7. Thus the West has to win in Afghanistan.
