If the economy is still in the toilet, that is a different matter, the Republicans could come back, that would be a nightmare for the Obama Administration. In 1994 Clinton lost the House, it looked bad for the President and his Agenda, at the end of the day it was the best thing that could have happened to Clinton, he worked with Congress, he go re-elected, he left office very popular. If Obama does not have to be pragmatic he could lose his re - election bid in 2012.
