The US needs to keep these two countries on the same page and not at War with each other, if Pakistan goes to War with India, this would damage the role of the US in Afghanistan, as the terrorists in the badlands of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan could pass the border without having to worry about the Army of Pakistan. Also as these two countries are nuclear armed, this could cause havoc in the region, thus the Bush and Obama Administrations has to make sure that the terrorists don't win the final round, the aim of the terrorists is to create a war between India and Pakistan.
