Fox News: Reports on a interview with Vice - President Dick Cheney. Cheney was a firm supporter of ex Defence Secretary Rumsfeld. It should be noted that when Rumsfeld was Chief of Staff to President Ford his Deputy was a young Dick Cheney and when Rumsfeld became Defence Secretary for the first time under Ford it was Cheney that became Chief of Staff. Thus one can see why Cheney is loyal to his former boss but at the end of the day Rumsfeld was the wrong man at the helm, the success of the Bush surge and of Robert Gates has shown that if Rumsfeld had been shown the door at the start of the second term the results in Iraq could have been different and we might have had a President McCain in 2009.
