The US Supreme Court - Update 3 - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

Thus the left has started its fight over who should replace Justice Anthony Kennedy.   The left will use abortion as their main issue, the problem is that that they have tried this before and Trump is in the White House.   The left have to get over the fact that this is not the 1970s, it is 2018, and the US is not going to ban abortion, the powers would be returned to the States, some will have stricter laws than others.  Times have changed, it is about time the left grew up!!

Brexit Latest - Update - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The EU wants the billions from the UK in a divorce settlement, thus the UK has the upper hand, it should be tough with the EU, we want a new deal that allows the UK to have a close relationship with the EU, but allows the UK to decide who comes over its borders in immigration terms.   The EU is faced with a major challenge, mass immigration and Countries within the EU that do not want immigrants to come in over their borders, they need money, thus the UK can offer billions IF we get the deal we want.

Kennedy's retirement - Update 2 - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

The Trump base will be happy that POTUS will have a chance to shape the Supreme Court, the liberal elite and press with be very unhappy, they will try to thwart the nomination.  The Trump Oval should select a good Conservative Judge, one with a Conservative record, one does not want a Judge who turns out to be a secret liberal.   This retirement will help get the Republican vote out, the Democrats will also use the issue.

Trump to shape the Supreme Court - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

Thus elections have results, as the article notes if HRC she won the election in 2016 she would have selected more liberal judges, giving a 6/3 liberal split to the Court.  The left wing media will be all over the new nominee from the Trump White House, the Democrats as the article notes have already stated that the Majority Leader of the US Senate has stated that nominee's should not be selected in an election year, but there is a difference between a Mid Term and a Presidential election.  The US is always in an election phase, one way or another, either the Mid Terms or a Presidential Election.  The US election system is always on the go, it never ends.

Brexit Latest - Update 3 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

IF France, Germany and Spain want to play silly buggers then the UK should walk away from the EU, the loss would be to the EU, the UK would not give it billions and its budget would be thrown into turmoil.   The UK has to fight the EU like trench warfare, there is no give and take, the winner is the one still standing.   The UK needs to be forceful and harder, that is the only way to win against the EU.

Royal Assent to Brexit Bill - Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus Brexit gets a day closer, the UK Government should now get a good deal from the EU, if there is any funny business from the EU the Government should walk away with our billions.  The BBC/Guardian/Sky News types will never support Brexit, they will find anyway to undermine the process.   The UK voter has decided on Brexit, it is now time to get a DEAL.

Brexit Latest - Update - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Big business has gotten its knickers in a twist when it comes to Brexit, they are thinking about their bottom dollar and not what is in the interest of the UK.   The Conservatives should manage their relationship with business better, as in the past the Conservatives have had support from business and has supported business.  The left wing elite will use anything to try to prevent Brexit, the Government should not give them scraps to fight the government with, Brexit is only a few months away now, let's keep our eyes on the prize.

US Travel Ban - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

At the end of the day it is the job of the President to make sure that those that enter the US are there for peaceful reasons, the US Courts or Congress can not micro manage the Office of the US Presidency.   The left in Congress and the Courts will not be happy, there will be other cases before the Courts.   The issue should be important when the Mid Terms comes along in November, the left will try to say that Trump is a racist, that the policy is unfair for those Muslim Countries, it will be up to the voters to decide the future fate of this policy.   In political terms, this was a good day for the Trump Oval.

The Next Brexit FIGHT over BREXIT - Brexit Update 4 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus the next fight over Brexit will come when the trade bill comes back to the House of Commons.   In that the rebels want to stay in the Customs Union and the Single Market.   The Government whips will have a tough time in keeping the rebels in their place, as stated the process for Brexit is complex, more intense battles on the way.    The one saving grace for the Chief Whips is the fact that the he can count on some Labour rebels and the fact that Jeremy Corbyn does not want to be in the Single Market, that very fact could make Brexit a success.

Brexit Latest - Update 3 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The next big fight fight will be the trade bill and the Customs Bill, will the moaning remainers try to get the UK stuck in the Customs Union.   As stated the blog supports the UK staying in the Customs Union and the Single Market, there are more battles to go, this latest win for the Government is part of a long term process that sees the UK leaving the EU on March 2019.  The PM NOW needs to get a good deal out of the EU, something that keeps us close to the EU but respects the 2016 vote.

The Speaker will have the final say on House of Commons Amendments - Brexit Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The Government has pushed the political can down the road, if there is no deal or the House of Commons rejects the deal then it will be up to the House Speaker to decide on Amendments to Bills.   On the whole a good day for the PM, she will now have the Brexit Bill through, the House of Lords will not throw another wrench in to the process, they are on soft ground, thus the next fight at the EU Summit.

Conservative Rebels thwarted in Meaningful Vote for the House of Commons - Brexit Update - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

This was a good day for PM May, she can now go to the EU Summit holding a firm bat, if the rebels had been successful the PM it had been stated would have gone to the Summit with No bat.   At the end of the day the Government runs the executive while the House of Commons either gives its consent or not to laws.   Brexit goes on, there will be more hurdles!!   The next big fight will be if if the UK will be in a customs union with the EU, or the EEA, the moaning remainers never give up.

European Arrest Warrant - Brexit Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The EU is playing hardball, by stating that the UK would be out of European Arrest Warrant as an example what happens when you leave the EU.   The UK should return with a tough approach, it should state that the EU will not get its billions from the UK if it plays these games.    The PM has to make it clear that she will walk away from a DEAL, that is the only thing that the EU understands.

Brexit Latest - Update - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The moaning remainers see the EU as a secular religion, they cannot fathom that the UK voted to leave the EU, the former Conservative Chancellor Ken Clarke stated that PM May needed to be rescued from the Hard Brexit supporters in the Cabinet.   The PM should allow the House of Commons to have a meaningful vote if there is no deal.  At the end of the day Brexit is about the return of power to the House of Commons, ALL the PM has to do is get a good deal, the EU is playing hardball, the UK should also play hardball, no deal no money from the UK.   Time for PM May to find her inner Thatcher.

Brexit Latest - Update - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The Conservative Government should just say no, it would not matter what the House of Lords DO, the Government will do what it wants, the rebels can vote for a vote of no confidence, that would bring down the government, lets see how many are willing to take a risk at a General Election.   UK foreign policy can not be lead by 650 MPs, it would allow the EU to place any deal it WANTS and leave the Government with no choice but to take the deal.   The moaning remainers are a real pain in the EU.

Tax hikes, Brexit to fund the NHS , Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The Conservatives will never win a competition with Labour as to who can hike taxes to fund the NHS.   The British voter does not want that, the typical voter gets the fact that there will never be enough money for the NHS, what is important is how the money it gets know is spent.   This move by the PM May goes against the Manifesto in the last General Election, the voter will remember next time there is an election.   Also the elite left wing media will never give the PM credit for the idea, the run segments that give the impression that the NHS is letting people down, it never states that with health there is never enough money, it's the nature of the beast.

Tak hikes and Brexit to fund the NHS - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The idea of tax hikes to fund the NHS is a bad idea, the Conservatives if they are anything, want to cut the tax burden on voters, the NHS will never be fully funded, it grows with the development of new drugs and new cures.   The Labour Opposition promise the earth, with tax hikes, that is why the Labour Party has lost every election since 2010.   The Brexit dividend might work in theory, but in practice it will take years for there to be a dividend.  Tax hikes is a BAD IDEA, the voters will not be happy.

Brexit Update - Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The Labour Party did the Conservatives a favour, as they were split, also they have a leader who is a secret hard Brexit supporter.   The Conservative won ALL the votes, even ones that are in the weeds when it comes to Brexit.  Of course the pro remainers in the Conservative Party will say that they have gotten a concession from the PM, that if there is no deal or the House of Commons rejects the deal the House of Commons has the final say, one can only hope NOW that there is deal.

The Conservative Rebel to vote against the Government - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The above is the problem with the Conservative Party, there are two forces facing different ways, you have hard remainers who seem to be in love with the EU, while the hard Brexit supporters wish Europe would just go away.   The PM is trying to ride two horses who are going to different ways, the PM should make a choice, soft Brexit or hard Brexit, and make it a threat, if the factions won't go her way she will call a general election.  Even the Labour Party will support that, they could hardly say NO to a general election.  ONE does feel sorry for the PM.

Trump in the Dock ? - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

Are we seeing the start of the end to the Trump Presidency, if the lawyer for POTUS is about to cooperate with prosecutors then POTUS might need to pardon himself, of course the Trump Oval has stated that it did nothing wrong when it comes to 2016 and Russia.   Let us recall that Nixon was bought down by a fifth rate burglary at the Watergate, while Bill Clinton impeached due to a blue dress.    The crime itself never gets you, it's the cover up that gets you in the end.   This is developing story, interesting days ahead.

Brexit Latest - Update - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The PM should support the UK staying in the Customs Union and Single Market, it would unite a majority of Conservatives and Labour MPs, the hard Brexit supporters would have nowhere to go, they could try to bring down PM May, but it can be argued that the PM is tough enough to withstand any backlash, as long as the UK leaves the EU in March 2019 most people would be quite happy for the UK to stay in the CU and SM, the Government can go to the next election with a pledge to leave both, and place the future in the hands of the voters.

Donald Trump is FOOL over North Korea - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

POTUS has been played by North Korea, the Trump Oval has allowed his ego to get out of control.   The North Koreans will play for time, they have gotten Trump to stop the War games with South Korea and to have a Summit with Kim Jong - un.  What is to stop North Korea restarting its nuclear process, will China really carry on with the sanctions, one has doubts.   The Trump Oval shafts the long term friends of the US and plays homage to the enemies of the US, from North Korea to Russia.  The Democrats should go after Trump over his North Korean policy, while the hawks in the Republican Party need to be critical of POTUS, Trump makes Carter look like a good President.

Brexit Latest - Update 3 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus a good day for the Government, it so far has not been defeated.  That matter of the concession is interesting, this clause comes in to play if there is no Brexit Deal or the House of Commons says NO to the deal.  British Foreign Policy can not not be run by 650 MPs, it would be madness, but a real role of the House of Commons should be used, in the EVENT of neither a deal or a deal vetoed by the House of Commons, the Commons should be allowed to develop a policy that can get the okay from the majority of the House of Commons.   If the House of Commons tries to negate BREXIT, then the PM should call a general election.

Update:  The general press reaction is confused, what has the PM offered to the rebels, will the House of Commons have a VETO or not, thus far we will have to wait to see the details when the Brexit Bill returns to the House of Lords.

Brexit Latest - Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

This could be a bad news for the PM, the moaning remainers might have the votes to defeat her in the House of Commons - Developing Story

De - Select MPs who stab the PM in the back - Brexit Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The Conservative associations of MPs who stab the PM in the back today should de - select their MP for the next election.   The people have spoken in the 2016 vote, the May Government is trying to follow the will of the British people.  Those that read this blog might be surprised, as this blog supports staying in the Customs Union and the Single Market.  That policy move is based on the fact that Jeremy Corbyn could win the next election.   As this blog has stated, it wishes it could like the the moaning remainers, but it is hard, they in the time of the Roman Empire would have built secular Temple to Augustus, wrong then and now.

The Build Up to the Brexit Vote - Brexit Update - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

A Junior Minister has resigned to join the rebels in voting to support the Lords Amendments, it will be a close vote, this blog hopes that the customs union and single market are approved by the House of Commons.   As stated this  a safeguard in case Jeremy Corbyn ever gets to No 10.   This blog will not make projections, only a fool makes that kind of political guess with the numbers so close, time will tell.

Trump Appeases North Korea - The US and North Korean Summit

Lets Get Real:

The Democrats should pounce on this major concession by President Trump, the hawks in the Republican Party should distance themselves from POTUS.   The President has been played by North Korea, they will never give up their nuclear weapons, and it will be hard for the US to get sanctions placed again on North Korea, one can China relaxing its sanctions on North Korea, this is a win for China and North Korea.    This is the problem when you elect a reality TV star as President, he sees coverage as more important than the FACTS ON THE GROUND.   The South Koreans might like that there is less tension with North Korea, but their defence is based on the US being on the ground, if Trump removes the troops then South Korea could face an attack by the North.   Trump is new Neville Chamberlain, the Summit was the new Munich 1938.

The State of Play for tomorrow for the House of Commons - Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Ah to be a fly on the wall of the office of the Chief Whips, for both the Government and the Opposition.   One presumes that there will be rebels on both sides, it will be interesting to see how many Conservatives rebels vote for the House of Lords Amendments, the reverse with the Labour, who will support the Government when it comes to negating the Lords Amendments.  The 24/7 channels will need half the screen for the US and North Korean Summit and the other for the House of Commons.

Your Brexit Story for the Day - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The crunch day for Brexit is tomorrow, there are 15 Amendments from the House of Lords.  The House of Commons should support the Lords when it comes to the UK staying in the Customs Union and Single Market.   The votes will be close, one only hopes that enough Tory rebels to give the Opposition a victory and secure a better future for the UK. The Summit between the US and North Korea and the House of Commons tomorrow makes for an interesting day.

North Korea and its past promises to the US - Update 2 - North Korean Crisis

Lets Get Real:

The Trump Oval has to be careful that it is not played by the North Korean Regime, in the past North Korea has made promises that it went back on straight away.  President Reagan had a great line, Trust by Verify, that means inspectors on the ground in North Korea to check if North Korea is keeping to the agreement.   As for PR, the Summit is good for Trump and Kim Jong Un, both can act the statesman, tomorrow will be very interesting.

The US and North Korean Summit - Update - North Korean Crisis

Lets Get Real:

Both US and North Korean leaders want a successful Summit for different reasons, Trump has something to prove, that he can do DEALS that stick and he is better than past Presidents.  The North Korean leader wants to end the sanctions that have been imposed on the North Korea by the World.   Thus a good deal would be that North Korean give up its nuclear missiles, while they get a Treaty that secures the North Korean Regime.   On the US side, Trump must not be appear weak, if Kim Jong-un is playing him the President must not be afraid to walk out.   The two leaders meet at 9am UK time tomorrow.

Conservatives have a 7% lead over Labour - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The Conservatives have had a BAD WEEK when it comes to Brexit, but they are still 7 point ahead of Labour.  There have been rumours of a General Election in October if the PM can not get her own way with Brexit.   The PM has to be tough, she should make it clear to the rebel MPs in the House of Commons that they could face a General Election, MPs will soon get the point, with elections you never know the result.   In a odd way a good week for the PM.

The UK's backstop for Northern Ireland - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The EU and the Republic Ireland are playing hardball with the UK when it comes to a solution over the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, it is time for the UK to make it clear that we will not be bullied by either.   The UK should walk out of the EU meetings, show the EU that will we will not put up with their foolish attempts to break the UK apart.  Also we should keep our money, and make it clear that if the EU and Republic play games the UK will take billions off the table.

Trump wants Russia back in the G7 - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

What is it with Russia and Trump, he gains no fans by wanting to have Russia back in the G7, so why bring it up.   One has the viewpoint that Russia must have something on Trump, no other President would state the above view after Russia was thrown out of the G8.  In the fact the G7 is only a day meeting for POTUS, he is off for his meeting with the North Koreans next Tuesday, one does wonder that the two mercurial and egoistical leaders will say to each other, as Tuesday will not be boring, this Summit and the votes in the House of Commons when it comes to Brexit.

The EU and Backstop - Update 4 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus the PM has put out one local fire, now faces a EU fire, the EU is not impressed with the UK Brexit backstop.   The PM has to be firm with the EU and the Republic of Ireland, the UK will not play this game, either accept what we want or we walk out with our money.   The PM has to be strong, she must make the EU think that she will walk, do they want to see Boris Johnson as PM or David Davis.  THE backstop is only a problem if the UK and the EU can not get a deal, thus the term backstop, the UK, well the Cabinet should make its mind up when it comes to Brexit, what form, and can they get it through the House of Commons.

Brexit Backstop - Update 3 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

This Cabinet row might have some negative effects, those hard remainers within the House of Commons might not be afraid of the PM and thus vote with Labour on the Customs Union and the Single Market.   Also the EU must think that the PM is weak if she can not fire Cabinet Ministers who are pain.   This blog has predicted that the House of Commons will vote for the UK to remain in the House of Commons.  The Labour EEA plus amendment will not get many Conservative votes, while the Lords Amendment on the single market will have problems getting through as the Labour Party will leadership has told its MPs not to vote for it.   The Brexit supporters said the talks would be easy, they have not been, let's see who wins at the end of the day.

EU Backstop - Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus PM May has kept her Brexit Secretary, if he had gone the PM could have lost her Foreign Secretary and her Trade Secretary, firm Brexit supporters.   The question is can the Chief Whips of the Conservative Party keep the troops in line, will the PM be defeated by the hard remainers in the House of Commons.  Also how many Labour MPs will vote for Brexit, neither political Party can be happy, next Tuesday IS Brexit Day.   This blog still support the UK staying in the Customs Union and the Single Market, it's the best outcome.

The UK Backstop for Brexit - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus last night and this morning we had speculation as to if David Davis the Brexit Secretary was going to resign if the backstop to Brexit did not have an end date.   In the end the Brexit Secretary WON the fight with the PM.   Of course next the hurdle is the EU, so far the EU has not been that impressed with the backstop, they are concerned about the Irish border, and how the time limited Backstop will effect border transport and trade.   The local wildfires are small compared to the major votes next week in the House of Commons.

What is Labour's stand on Brexit - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

In essence the Labour Party is trying to keep its factions on the same page, northern votes who voted to leave the EU will not be happy if Labour tried to prevent Brexit, while Hard remainers want to keep the UK in the EU.   The new EEA plus as devised by the labour leadership has no chance with the EU, its a fantasy idea, as they are the opposition not the government.  Next Tuesday will be fun and games in the House of Commons, both whips will be under pressure to keep the sheep, sorry MPs in line, and the Whips do not have dogs!!!

Labour divided over Brexit - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus both of the main political parties in the House of Commons are split, in the Conservative Party you have hard remainers, who will vote to remain in the Customs Union and the Single Market, while on the Labour side you have the old Blair fraction that want to stay in the customs union and the single market, while the leadership wants a EEA plus, a new deal between the UK and the EU.  It will be interesting to see the outcome, one can say that the Customs Union will pass, while the single market might be a problem, it is a  matter of getting into the weeds of the Brexit Bill, clause by clause!!

May on the robes when it comes to PMQs - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The PM was on the back foot when it comes to Brexit, the PM needs to be brave, make a decision and fight for it, the present weakness allows Jeremy Corbyn to outgun her when it comes to PMQs and it does nothing to get support from the Conservative backbenchers.  The PM should make a choice, hard or soft Brexit and stick to it, even with the threat of a General Election, that should put the fear of God in to MPs who oppose her.  Not a good day for Brexit supporters, good day for Labour supporters even if they know in their heart of hearts that Corbyn is really a hard Brexit supporter.   The Labour view is a fantasy, they think that they can get a EEA plus out of the EU, allow the Government to restrict movement and allow a new Labour government to take over industries!!

Corbyn takes on May over Brexit - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Today was not great for the PM, the Opposition leader had her on the ropes, the only good thing for the Government was the statement by Labour that they would not support the Lords Amendment to keep the UK in the EEA, the EEA stands for the European Economic Area, Norway is a member, it is a rule taker not a rule maker.  The Labour Party thinks it can have its cake and eat it, it wants to a new EEA, one that allows the UK to control migration and allow the Government to fund different industries, the EU has made it clear that is a non starter.    The votes will be close on June 12, it can be postulated that the UK will remain in the Customs Union but not the single market, well not THE Single Market, it could get very confusing !

Tuesday, June 05, 2018

Corbyn's SOFT Brexit - Update 3 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

It seems that the Telegraph agrees with the BBC on this latest Brexit story out of the Labour Party.  It can be postulated that Corby wants a special deal from the EU.  As one looks at the present talks between the EU and the UK Government a special deal is out of the question, the EU has been very clear, take it or leave it, your either in or out of the single market, and if your in the single market you have to accept freedom of movement, that would cost Labour votes in the North, even Parliamentary Seats.  It will be interesting to see who wins, thus my prediction, the UK will be in the Customs Union and the single market, but not the single market wanted by the Labour Party leader.  One can expect that Labour will join with the Conservative rebels for the UK to stay in the actual single market with freedom movement.   There could be a general election.

Corbyn SOFT Brexit and Real Brexit - Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Thus folks we are in the weeds when it comes to Brexit, both the BBC and the Daily Mail have the same story but different result.   It seems that Labour wants a special deal that the EU will never give, it almost looks like that the Labour Party is as divided as the Conservative Party.  The simple reason is that Labour voters in the North of England voted to leave the EU, while the left elite in London does not want to act that makes it look weak to its hard remainers in the South and London.  It can be postulated that June 12 is going to be a long day for the PM and Corbyn.

Labour moves to SOFT Brexit - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

Jeremy Corbyn has given up his opposition to the UK staying in the Single Market, thus with the Labour Opposition, Liberal Democrats, SNP and Conservative rebels the UK is facing a soft Brexit.   The PM should use this result as a way to get the rest of the Conservative Party to go for a Soft Brexit, because that will be the result.   At the UK will be out of the EU, we get our own passports back, that is a start.

I can Pardon Myself - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

As this blog has stated, if President Trump did pardon himself it would be the ultimate reality show moment, if POTUS is planning such a move he should do it while the Republicans control the House and Senate.    This would force the Democrats to run on impeaching the President, that would get Democrats and Republicans out to vote.  It can postulated that the Trump Lawyers think that POTUS is above the law, not even the lawyers for Richard Nixon or Bill Clinton argued that point!!  The Russia investigation goes on, it does seem endless!!

Bill Clinton on Monica - Trump Era

Lets Get Real:

The Old Hound Dog never learns, he feels sorry for himself, what about Monica Lewinsky, he threw her under the bus then and now.  One does think that small part of HRC losing in 2016 was people were worried what a bored Bill Clinton would get up to in the White House
if he was First Husband.  The Clintons are well off, Bill Clinton might be under a cloud because of the Metoo movement, would he remain if Office now if the scandal how broken now and he was President, one has doubts that BC would have fallen on his sword, he would have fought it now as then.   Some old Hounds never learn.

The Brexit Bill - Update 2 - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The UK Government is taking a risk, the amendments by the House of Lords could be upheld by the House of Commons.   PM May should make concessions were she can, the May Government could fall if May loses an important vote.  It will be a long day on June 12 for MPs, the House of Lords Amendments will be voted on through the day and night.  It will make for interesting coverage !!

The Brexit Bill - Post Brexit

Lets Get Real:

The UK Government should make concessions, it should allow the UK to stay in the Customs Union and the Single Market.  The main point is to get out of the EU, as stated many times by this blog, if the House of Commons votes to stay in the Single Market it will prevent any future Labour Government from taking over large areas of the UK economy.   Also it makes more economic and culture sense.   This blog just wishes the hard remainers were more likable, they are not, the hard Brexit supporters at least have their heart in the right place if not their brain.
