POTUS will not resign if he does not want too, but a argument can be made that if he is forced with Impeachment and the Republicans in the Senate going along with it, then he could be forced out and banned from running in 2024.  Trump could take the Nixon option, resign, but before doing that, granting himself and his family a FULL PARDON, in way that would benefit Biden, he does need Trump  clogging up his agenda, one doubts that Biden would allow Trump to face arrest and prison time, once you start that, it sets a precedent, and no POTUS wants that, him or her could be NEXT.  CNNN is loving this, but giving that Trump has given them sword one can not really complain.  Even Nixon knew at the end that he had destroyed himself, Nixon was self aware, that is why he wanted Trump to run for the Oval, one assumes that Tricky Dicky knew that Trump would be a disaster, and his poll ranking would go up a bit, Nixon was no Trump, he did win twice, in 1968 and 1972.

It can be argued that President Trump has blood on his hands after the speech he gave outside of the White House that pushed for the Trump protesters to march on the Hill, it is open to debate, did he know that would be result, or was he chancing his luck on something to prevent Democracy taking its natural cause.   The news reports that there have been many arresters of the rioters, the charges seem low, no charge of treason or sedation, are they harder to prove, well that should not be the case, the rioters filmed themselves, there must be plenty footage for the Federal authorities to charge at least sedition, that goes for Trump also.  Of the Trump, he might pardon himself and his family and his close staff, a President's Power on PARDON on the federal level has no come back, its is absolute, the US Supreme Court with its conservative Judges are not likely to change that because of Trump.  The WORLD could do with quiet Presidency when Biden takes over.

Thus we have a frosty handover at the best, one would think that Vice - President Pence will welcome the Biden's to the White House before the inauguration, there is a set plan for these events.  The last frosty handover, was between Truman and Ike, neither spoke on the way to the Inauguration, the ice only broke after the assassination of President Kennedy and the former Presidents shared a car.   As noted by the article, the last President not to attend the swearing in of his successor was Andrew Johnson in 1869.   One should also note that President Nixon was on Air Force One on the way home when his successor was sworn in after his Watergate resignation, in 1974.  Thus for the next two years the Democrats will control the House, Senate and the Presidency, let's give Biden the benefit of the doubt, one sure that will not last, he has been wrong to many time in foreign policy for his Administration to work.
