Telegraph: Reports that the views of the British Ambassador to Afghanistan, Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles via the French government and a leaked cable. Sir Sherard is alleged to have negative views on Western Forces in Afghanistan and of the government of Afghanistan. The surprise is I agree with the alleged remarks, if we cant control the badlands of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan then we should get out. The terrorists have a safe heaven on the border, the new Government of Pakistan is to weak to send in major troops, the West cant send troops in to Pakistan as this would cause the Government to fall and could allow the terrorists to take over a country with nuclear weapons, that would be real crisis, to hell with a credit crisis. Of course French Elite opinion is against France sending troops to Afghanistan, thus one has to take that in to consideration when looking at French press views of the War.
