Obama on Greece

The White House reports that President Obama has called the Prime Minister Papandreou of Greece to support the economic reform plan of Greece, the reform plan was a condition of the bailout from the EU/IMF. The President stated the following to the Greek Prime Minister, ".....He welcomed the ambitious reform program announced by the Greek authorities, as well as the significant support that was agreed to by the IMF and Eurozone members. The two leaders discussed the importance of implementation going forward. " The Oval is concerned that should Greece go down this could take down Spain, Portugal, Italy and Ireland, this would have damaging effect on the Western Economy, also the US after the passing of ObamaCare could be facing the same dangers to its economy as Greece down the line. A bankrupt Greece would show that ObamaCare would need to be repealed by the Republicans, thus Obama is hoping that Greece does not go down for its own sake and his Presidency.

Death in Afghanistan

MOD: Reports that a British Soldier was killed today in Afghanistan, the soldier was from the " 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment serving with 40 Commando Royal Marines Battle Group ". Thus since 2001 the UK has lost 282 of its Armed Forces Personnel in Afghanistan, of that total it has lost 249 in combat operations and 33 due to illness, accidents or other incidents. Thus this month alone the UK has lost four soldiers, in 2009 in April it was one soldier, in April 2008 the UK lost three soldiers, it seems every month it gets worse in Afghanistan. The new Government after the election really has to look at the UK strategy in Afghanistan, the US should start to take over the load from the UK, in many respects its their War.

120 Billion for Greece - EU/IMF

The New York Times: Reports that the bankrupt nation of Greece is to get a bailout from the EU/IMF of a 120 Billion. Well folks, Greece cant keep its women ( Helen of Troy ) and NOW the EU/IMF has to bailout the pols of Athens. Lets look at this in a non euro tinted way, can you trust the politicians of Athens and the people of Greece to take the tough economic medicine, the public sector of Greece is out of control, paid just to turn on up on time, tax avoidance is a national hobby, the past leaders of Greece ( not Alexander the Great or the Roman Emperors ) have not told the truth to the people, why change a custom of a lifetime. This could be 120 billion down the toilet, that is my prediction.

Conservatives 314 Seats in House of Commons ?

The Sunday Times: Reports that internal Conservative polls show the Conservative Party on 314 seats in the new House of Commons. If this is followed through on Thursday and you include any seats picked up by the Ulster Unionists in Northern Ireland this could allow the Conservative Party to form a working minority Government. But as stated in my weekend polls posts, its down to the swing in the %vote in each individual seat, thus its all to play for on Thursday.

" That Woman " - Mrs Duffy

Mail on Sunday: Has an exclusive interview with Mrs Duffy, the life long labour supporter that PM Brown called a " Bigot ". As MoS reports what really upset Mrs Duffy was to be called " That Woman ". If Mr Brown does go down to defeat on Thursday it will be his own words that put the knife in to his political career, but what is more ironic is that knife was a life long labour supporter who looked after disable children. Lets see the results up North on Thursday, also look at the Labour vote in 2005, lets see if Mrs Duffy lead to the fall of PM Brown.

The Weekend Polls - UK General Election

RCW UK Polls: Has the latest polls for the UK election, the RCW average of the polls is the following, Conservatives 35.5%, LibDems 28.2% and Labour 26.3%. If this result was followed through on May 6th we in the UK would have a Hung Parliament, but due to the UK system there would not be a uniformed swing, as in the England you have some seats that are Tory/LibDems fights, others are Tory/Labour fights and then you have a three way fight in some seats. Also lets not forget the other smaller Parties in the system. Thus by the BBC Seat Counter the Conservatives would have 295 seats, 31 short of a Majority, the Labour Party would have 239 and the LibDems would have 87 seats. The winning post is 326, a pact between Labour and LibDems would give Labour 326. Thus lets see how the dice falls on Thursday folks.
