Guardian: Reports " US military will retain core strategy against Isis as Trump mulls escalation..Central Command indicates reliance on proxies for lion’s share of fighting..Defense secretary to present options for expanding conflict next week "
Lets Get Real:
In Iraq the basic strategy is to get the Iraqi forces to do the fighting, this has two reasons, the US voter does not want to see US Soldiers die in Iraq, also it shows that Iraq is a State with the forces required to defend itself, the US and its Allies can not stay there forever. At some point Iraq will have to stand on its own. In Syria it is more complicated, the Assad Regime and its backer Russia see rebels as a threat, thus they are more interested in fighting them, than on taking on Daesh, while the US wants to get rid of Daesh as it is seen as a threat to the the Middle East and the US/Western allies. Thus it might take US ground troops, that would be the ultimate sell by this President. Iraq and Syria are not going away fast, and it could get worse.
